WHO?He was the youngest authenticated British soldier in World War I with only twelve years old.

WHAT?He fought at the Battle of the Somme at 12 years old. then aged thirteen, in the 106th Machine Gun. Lewis fought in the Battle of Delville Wood which saw some of the worst casualties on the Somme.

WHY?

He was sent home after his mother sent his birth certificate to the War Office and demanded his return.

WHEN?

He re-enlisted in 1918 and served with the army of occupation in Austria. And he died in 1969.

WHERE? It took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on both sides of the River Somme in France.

HOW?He lied about his age so the government thought he was older so he was sent to war.

Diego: If my country needs people to fight for the war and they don’t have, maybe I will go. But if my country was wining the war I wouldn’t go.

Bruno: Yes because I prefer to die protecting my country than just watching how they destroy my country.

Fernando: Yes but only if my country needs me and if I am prepare but if I am not prepare I will die in a second and it will be the same that if I go or not.

Conclusion

In that days the war was very important for many countries, so we think that Sidney Lewis was a brave man and with a lot of Patriotism and courage. We respect him because when he turned back from war at 13 years old, he wait until 18 and reenlisted to war.
