Many people abuse the opiates because they bring about comfort and can help relive stress. There is a general feeling of contentment and warmth once these substances are taken. Still, someone suffering from chronic pain will get dependent to these drugs because the pain is completely eliminated once the drugs are taken. Side Effects of Opiate Addiction
After a long time of using the opiates, an individual becomes tolerant and will not have any immediate side effects. However, they are unable to function without the drugs, and can have fatal health withdrawal complications if they try to stop using them. Further, as they use the injections, it is possible for them to get HIV infections. It is also possible to get spontaneous abortion and hepatitis. Overdose of the same drug causes sudden death.
Many addicts who do not really know ‘what is an opiate’ neglect their responsibilities. They become slaves to the drugs, which further means that they do anything and everything for the sake of getting a daily dosage of the drugs. They are also not concerned about their hygiene, which can cause other health complications such as diarrhea and parasite infestation among other things.
