Dear Greenbelters,  Let's all work on for the incoming RY 2009-10. Weekly meetings, district activities, district seminars and implementation of club projects, are really big tasks for us professionals and businessmen, but for a little bit of sacrifice we are helping the less privileged who needs us. Being a Rotarian is a commitment and we express and share our love to others through selfless service. "The Future of Rotary is in your Hands" is the rotary theme this year.  Let us dedicate a little bit of our time, talent and resources to make our club better and stronger.

The future of Rotary (Makati Greenbelt) is really in our hands!

“THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS” – RI theme for RY 2009-10

The 2009-10 RI theme acknowledges theimportant role individual Rotary Clubs will play in shaping the future of Rotary.

RI Pres John Kenny unveiled the themeduring the plenary session of the 2009International Assembly at Manchester Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, California, USA.

“The future of Rotary will not be shaped at RI Headquarters—it will be shaped in each and every Rotary Club,” Kenny said, “because it is for each of us—as Rotarians – to do what is necessary to keep Rotary strong.”

He acknowledged the foundation established by past Rotary leaders and laid the responsibility for building upon that success on every Rotarian. “Each one of us is standing on the shoulders of generations of Rotarians past, and it is our responsibility to determine Rotary’s future.” he said.

I Can’t Smile Without You

You know I can’t smile without you I can’t smile without youI can’t laugh and I can’t singI’m finding it hard to do anything

You see I feel sad when you’re sadI feel glad when you’re gladIf you only knew What I’m going throughI just can’t smile without you

You came along just like a songAnd brightened my dayTruly believed you’re part of my dreamNow it all seems light years away

And now I can’t smile without you I can’t smile without youI can’t laugh and I can’t singI’m finding it hard to do anything

You see I feel sad when you’re sadI feel glad when you’re gladIf you only knew What I’m going throughI just can’t smile without you

Now some people say Happiness takes So very long to findWell I’m finding it hard Leaving your love behind me

And you see I can’t smile without you I can’t smile without youI can’t laugh and I can’t singI’m finding it hard to do anything

You see I feel glad when you’re gladI feel sad when you’re sadIf you only knew What I’m going throughI just can’t smile without you

ROTARY INFORMATION

What is a ROTARY CLUB? Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons United worldwide to Provide humanitarian Service, encourage high Ethical standards in all vocations and help build Goodwill and Peace in the World.

Club Singing Harry Ruggles was the fifth man to join Paul Harris in the conversations that led to the formation of the first Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905. Harry was a fellow who enjoyed singing and this was a popular activity at the turn of the century. At an early meeting of the fledgling group, Harry jumped on a chair and urged everyone to join him in a song. Group singing soon became a traditional part of each Rotary meeting. The custom spread to many of the clubs in the United States and still a popular fellowship activity in the Rotary meetings of such diverse countries as Australia, Japan, Nigeria, New Zealand and Canada.

A Committed ROTARIAN – A - Attends rotary meetings and activities P - Participates in the projects and activities P - Pays membership dues L - Learns and leads E - Enjoys Rotary and fellowship S - Serves above self

President’s Message By SVP Susan Ringol

The District Handover and Induction was held lastJune 10, 2009 at Le Pavilion in Pasay City. All the incoming officers and club presidents were in themood for fellowship given a festive stage with a good band. Some even danced outright. The induction of the Smiling Visionary Pres (SVP),as we are called, was done after the Handover to the incoming Gov Sid Garcia and induction of the incoming District officers. The place was overflowing, with around 700 Rotarians and guests present. The SVPs sang the district song with gusto and presented a well rehearsed dance. The host club, RC Makati favored us with a very entertaining dance as well. I came and enjoyed all these with my very supportive spouse Milo as PP Sioni got sick and was hospitalized at the last minute. After the fun, comes the not so fun part. I had to prepare for the year to come. But with the support of everyone who came to the planning meetings, it was still fun after all. We came up with the Club Thrusts and Programs for RY 2009-10 and pledges for some of the projects. Rtn Nilda pledged for the book donation cost and Rtn Ana and PP Sessie pledged for the scholarship grants. As of this writing PP Maricel has a power point presentation prepared for the internship project which will be shown during our team visit. PP Sioni on the other hand lent the Club her printer for our regular club bulletins. Special thanks to all of you. Regarding our membership goal of 20 members a the end of this rotary year, Rtn Ana had invited another “Balikbayan” Rtn Au to start off her recruitment pledge of 3 members. Again, thanks to you! I feel that our RY had started just right and the future of our Club has really gone bright. With PP Sessie’s workshop our Club got a Literacy Award last RY. She intends to launch her book on Caring Leadership this RY and probably get another one of those awards for the Club. Way to go PP Sessie!! I know that if we put our hands and hearts together, our Club will reach greater heights! So, UP we go!! Rise up and Grow RC Makati Greenbelt!!
