Shuttle goes vertical for last time BY STEPHEN CLARK SPACEFLIGHT NOW Posted: March 1, 2011

Traveling a quarter-mile from a nearby processing hangar, the shuttle Endeavour rolled into the Vehicle Assembly Building just after 11 a.m. EST Monday. Firmly bolted to the 76-wheel orbiter transporter, the space plane was fitted with a metal sling several hours later than scheduled due to trouble getting the device attached.

Endeavour was finally hoisted vertically in the VAB's transfer aisle before sunrise Tuesday.

The shuttle is being prepared to blast off April 19 on its 25th and final mission. Endeavour and its six-person crew will deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer and a cache of suppliesto the International Space Station.

Shuttle hoisted by heavy-duty crane BY STEPHEN CLARK SPACEFLIGHT NOW Posted: March 1, 2011

Space shuttle Endeavour was raised almost to the ceiling of the cavernous Vehicle Assembly Building by a 325-ton heavy-lifting crane. The lift operation began at about 11 a.m. EST Tuesday.

The crane hoisted the orbiter just shy of the VAB's 52-story ceiling, then the space plane was translated over the transom into the building's northeast high bay, where the shuttle's external tank and twin solid rocket boosters are stacked on a mobile launch platform.

The shuttle is being prepared to blast off April 19 on its 25th and final mission. Endeavour and its six-person crew will deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer and a cache of suppliesto the International Space Station.

Endeavour lowered next to shuttle stack BY STEPHEN CLARK SPACEFLIGHT NOW Posted: March 1, 2011

Hanging from a heavy-duty crane and sling, space shuttle Endeavour was lifted from the floor of the Vehicle Assembly Building and placed next to a foam-covered orange external fuel tank and two sleek solid rocket boosters Tuesday.

Endeavour was in place near the tank's three attach points after 1 p.m. EST Tuesday.

Technicians will firmly bolt the orbiter to the fuel tank and test electrical and structural connections between the shuttle components later this week. Endeavour is scheduled to roll out to the launch pad March 9.

The shuttle is being prepared to blast off April 19 on its 25th and final mission. Endeavour and its six-person crew will deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer and a cache of suppliesto the International Space Station.
