Anyatva Bhaavana:Stanza 7: The soul and the body are mixed up like milk and water. Each exists distinct from the other. They are not one. Wealth, home, son, wife, obviously exist separately. How can they be one?

Explanation:I am different than the body.The body can not know. I can know.Body has senses, I do not have senses.Body is impermanent, I am permanent.I have worn infinite bodies while whirling through Sansaar.As birds get together on a tree at night, similarly family people get together

in a birth.Pondering over one being different than body, and people around is Anyatva

Bhavana.

Ashuchi Bhavana:Stanza 8: Why are you enamored of this body, which is a bundle of flesh, blood, pus and excreta and is defiled by bones, fat and the like, and has nine outlets, through which dirty matters flow.

Explanation:The body is built with the joints of the bones.The bones are surrounded with muscles. And it is surrounded by the

skin. It is full of 2 sensed etc beings.This is how impure this body is which can not be cleaned just by the application of water. We clean it everyday and still it gets dirty.The impure body has a bad odor, and full of dirty things like blood,

urine etc. It is impermanent.Sambodhan:

1. We all want to eat delicious food, and when it comes out in the vomit, nobody wants to even look at/touch it. Why?

2. We do not let any mal-mootra to stay in our room. And do not do anything about the nature of this body which has all mal-mootra.

It is in the nature of body to diminish gradually till death.Pondering over the impurity of body is ‘Ashuchi Bhavana’.

This bhavana helps in removing the attachment with the body.Homework: People should decide whether the body is really ashuchi or not.Kasauti: Really want to get rid of getting body again and again, and want to

achieve bodyless state.

Detachment (Virakti) vs. Hate (Ghrinaa):Virakti – This body is ugly, bad and is of no use for me. I am foolish that

I am having attachment with it. I should get rid of it. I am responsible for its attachment with me.

Ghrinaa – This body is ugly and bad for me. This body had made me impure. The body is bad for me.

Example: Sharir is Ashuchi, mujhe isse koi matlab naheen hai.

Aasrav Bhavana:

Stanza 9: Of Brother, the vibratory activities of body, mind and speech cause the inflow of Karmic molecules into the soul. The inflow is the source of multifarious miseries. The wise stop the inflow.

Explaination:

1. What is Aasrav?

Äsrav is the cause for the cycle of birth and death, and Samvar  and Nirjarä are the causes of liberation. Living beings are like a pond.. Punya and PÄP are the inlets. Inflow of water through the inlets is equivalent to Äsrav . To plug the inlets is Samvar. To get the water out of the pond is Nirjarä. The water inside the pond is the bondage of Karma. Empty pond is Moksha.

Lets see the details of how Aasrav happens:

Vargana: Set of atoms with similar properties is called Vargana. Example- Aharak Vargana, Taijas Vargana, Bhashaa Varagana,

Karmaan Vargana.

In the context of Aasrav we need to understand more on Karmaan Varganaa. It is set of atoms with similar properties. It spread all over the 3 loka, and we can not see from our eyes.

Karmaan Vargana has some special characteristics. It makes some special relations with the soul:

- It can pollute the knowledge(intelligence, memory, skills) of soul- It can pollute the soul by giving an impure body- It can pollute the body by taking it from one birth to another.- It can dictate whether one has vision, ear, and other senses- etc

Now the question is – how Karmaan Vargana starts making these relations with the soul. Actually, there is a physical process going on which brings Karmaan Vargana in a state. The physical process is ‘Yoga’.

Yoga: The vibrations(halan-chalan) in soul is called Yoga. And these vibrations convert Karmaan Vargana into karma.

There are 2 kind of Karman Vargana bound to soul:1. Karma: These are the ones which give us various kind of results.2. Visrasopchaya Parmanu: These are the ones which are bound with

Karma, and are candidate for getting converted to Karma.With Yoga, Visrasopchaya Parmanu get converted to Karma.

The Yoga decides two things:1. Pradesh Bandh: how many atoms get converted to Karma every

instant, and 2. Prakriti: what is the nature of Karma influxed. E.g. Gyanavarni,

Darshanavarni etc

At the same instant, the Kashaya decides two things:1. Sthiti: The duration when the fruits of karma will be born2. Anubhag: the intensity of the fruits of karma.

Here are the type of Karma, and what kind of Kashaya cause them to influx:

Types of Aasrav:

How does Aasrav Bhavana help?-By pondering over disadvantages, one gets motivation to not do Aasrav, and can make efforts to do Sanvar. Also by pondering over Aasrav, one is

able to observe the Aasrav done in our life, which otherwise we are not able to realize and do not make efforts to get rid of them.

How to ponder over Aasrav disadvantages:Aasrav has 5 types: (Dhaal 3, stanza 8)

1. Mithyatva, 2. Avirati, 3. Kashaya, and 4. Pramaad5. Yoga

1. Mithyatva (Wrong belief):- What is Mithyatva:

o Mithyatva is wrong knowledge about what is oneself, what is right/wrong for him for gaining Sukha.

o Essentially wrong knowledge about 7 tatvao Discussed in swadhyaya: The reason of being Sansari is

because of Karma, and karma is there because of Yoga and Kashaya. Then why Mithyatva is called fundamental root of being Sansari?

- Disadvantages:o Mithyatva => interest in Raag/Dwesh, and no interest in

detached state => maintains the tradition of Kashaya => Sansar continues.

o Example: Lets take an example of Novelist, who works hard for writing a novel, and ultimately the novel is going to be thrown in the river. Then it does not make any sense to do so much hard work for the novel. Similarly we are going to die- then what is point in earning millions, and get fame which makes no sense after death. Here wrong belief about death, makes one do so much Kashaya. Similarly there are wrong beliefs with us about raag/veetragta which makes us do Kashaya, and keep us in the whirl of sansaar.

- Introspection: Do we consider Mithyaatva to be the biggest Paap?- Results after Pondering:

o One wants to get rid of Mithyatva

2. Avirati:- What is Avirati:

o Indulgence in 5 Paap (Hinsa, Jhooth, Chori, Parigraha, Kushil), sensory pleasures

- Disadvantages:o Causes bad gatis, and bring very unfavourable situation.

- Results after ponderings:o One wants to follows the Vrata

o One does not like the state of Asanyam

3. Kashaya:- What are Kashaya:

o Anger: Emotions to kill someone. Emotions without forgiveness are anger. (Anish sanyog se parinaam) Examples:

Someone countered out point- causes anger Someone says bad word to us, causes anger If we meet someone, whom we don’t like- we get an

uncomfortable like. (Should be won with forgiveness.) Etc

Anger is won by Compassiono Maan(Arrogance):

Considering oneself to be higher and others to be lower. Doosre ke prati tiraskaar bhaav ko maan kehte hain. Dosre ke prati namne ki vritti Maan hain. Examples:

We get defensive and feel uncomfortable, if someone says I am wrong.

One wants to get money and fame, only because of Maan Kashaya.

One wants to get a good salary/promotion because of Maan Kashaya- that is why he does not get satisfied with money fulfilling his basic necessities.

One wants to look good because of Maan Kashaya. One wants his children to rise so they bring fame to him. Peer pressure. My house is smaller than theirs.

One big disadvantage with Arrogance: One, who has arrogance, does not have Vinaya. And without vinaya one can not learn Vidya- and hence can not learn dharma- the path to Sukha.

Maan is won by Vinayao Maya:

Doosre ko thagne roop parinaam Apne hridaya ke ashubh vichaaro ko chupaane ki jo cheshtaa kee jaati hai

Making a friend and talk sweet for some worldly purpose later. spend/donate less and show it big Ego: to satisfy ego, praise yourself more than what you are.

Show yourself good(dharmatma), and have bad intentions inside.o Lobh:

Kanksha ko lobh kehte hain. Examples:

Desire for money Desire for fame Attachment with family, and relatives and friends Desire for healthy body Lobh for the home

5. Yoga:- Vibrations in the soul.

- Results after pondering:o One wants to get Kashayaless

Results after pondering:- Hisaab : Observe and calculate Aasrav for every day, and make a

record as a businessman do.- Pratikraman , and स्वसंबोधन on what we did bad- गहा� = गुरु के समक्ष अपने दोषो को प्रकट करना

What is Sanvar: stopping influx of karma is Sanvar

Sanvar has 2 types:1. Bhaav Sanvar = Parinaam of soul, which causes the stoppage of

Aasrav is called Bhaav Sanvar- which is winning Vishaya – Kashaya (Dhaal 3, stanza 9)

2. Dravya Sanvar = Because of Bhaav Aasrav, stoppage of Dravya Aasrav is called Dravya Sanvar.

How does Sanvar Bhavana help?- It helps cleaning Vishaya-Kashaya, and hence brings Sukha. It is ladder for

Nirjara.

- मन, वचन, कार्यो की स्वेच्छा चारिर%ा को रोकना गुप्ति$% है। जिजससे परिरणामो मे तिकसिस %रह का संक्लेश पैदा ना हो इस रीति% से मन, वचन और कार्यो की स्वेच्छाचारिरत्र को रोकने से उसके तिनमिमत्त से होने वाले कम� क आस्रव नहीं हो%ा।

Samiti: गुप्ति$% के पालक मुतिन को भी आहार, तिवहार, तिनहार के सिलरे्यो प्रवृत्तित्त करनी पङ%ी है। र्योत्नपूव�क प्रवृत्तित्त ही समिम%ी है।

Case study: A butcher kills a cow- whom should we have compassion for?o One should have compassion for both cow and butcher.

On cow because she is suffering, and because of bad parinaam, she will get to a bad gati in her later life.

On butcher because he is a wrong knowledge state, and because of that, he does not even where this act will lead him to.

On other sects- (other religions)- who do not give the right teachings to people- One should have compassion for them.

//NishchayaVaad, Vyavhaar Vaad- people usually laugh them off – this shows intense Maan kashaya. One should have compassion for them.

How to decide which is correct- be unbiased and do Pariksha. Compassion for himself!

Compassion in a householder leads to following qualities: - Daan: a householder do daan, - Avoid Hinsa as much as possible: does not indulge himself in extra killing of living beings in

his household duties- AtmaNinda: Does Atma-ninda for the killing he does, and also Pooja to dilute his paap- Prabhavana: Out of compassion, he thinks that people should learn the right path to bliss so

that they get to know the real path of bliss and get rid of whirl in 4 gatis.

get deviated if stones bites the feet.o Aasan: One he sits in an Aasan – does not get deviated.o Sleeping: Even while sleeping on an irregular ground, sleeps on one sideo Harsh words: Even after listening to harsh words, he maintains his peace.o Vadha Parishaha: As a sandal wood gives good odor, even after burning it- similarly even

after someone hits him, he thinks good of him.o Yachana: He does not get Ahaar etc, even then he does not ask someone for it, though he

may lose his life.o Ahaar: When do not get ahaar – remain satisified in the same way as he was when he had

ahaar.o Disease: Even after having multiple diseases, not even thinking about getting them cured.o Dirt: Even with having dirt on the body- do not care about it.o Ego: Praised/Insulted – he keeps equanimity.o Wisdom: No ego for having great wisdomo Bad knowledge: Even after getting insulted for less knowledge, he keeps on trying to get

the knowledge.o Wrong belief: Even after deviating from the belief, keeping faith in the ascetic life.

Charitra:रागादिद दोष से रतिह% शुभध्र्योान में लीन आत्मस्वरूप वस्%ु को उत्कृष्ट चारिरत्र कह%े हैं।

Question: Where do we practically do Sanvar in our life?

How to do Sanvar Bhavana:- pondering over the Sanvar, and its advantages.

1. गुप्ति$% It helps me getting rid of all Kashaya. One needs to ponder what kind of Kashaya it helps one in getting rid of.

2. समिमति% It helps me in not having influx of bad karma, even when one is doing ahaar, vihaar, nihaar

3. धम� It helps – the dharma (Compassion and 10 dharma)- they help in getting rid of bad Kashaya- which helps in diluting Kashaya, and brings favourable conditions in next birth to get to Moksha.

4. अनुपे्रक्षा It helps in getting rid of kashyaa (Anitya helps in getting rid of attachment with material objects, and helps in winning Kashaya when I lose someone close. Etc.)

5. परिरषह जर्यो It helps in Sanvar and Nirjara, retain equanimity.

6. चारिरत्र It helps in Sanvar and Nirjara, retain equanimity.

Nirjara Bhavana:Nirjara means falling off, destruction, or removal of karmas from the soul

Nirjara can be divided into two kinds by the process of sheddingkarmas. They are:1) Akam Nirjara,2) Sakam Nirjara.

Akam Nirjara: When karmas mature automatically at their due time they cause sufferingaccordingly. Thus, we have no control on the timing of such sufferingand we have not put any special effort or shown special desire orintention to suffer on our side. Once the supposed suffering is overthen those karmas which caused this suffering are considered shed off.This natural process of maturity and shed off the karmas is called AkamNirjara.

Sakam Nirjara: On the other side when karmas are brought to maturity ahead off theirdue time by special efforts voluntarily or willingly to give theirresults then those karmas will be shed off sooner then expected. Thus,we have a control on to this process and this active process to shedoff the karmas prematurely is called Sakam Nirjara.

The causes of Narjara are of Sanvar, and austerities are major cause for Nirjara:

Nirjara Bhavana:

Austerities are categorized into two groups:1) External, and2) Internal.

1) External (Bahyantar) austerities2) Internal (Abhyantar) austerities

Each of these two austerities is further divided in six types:

1. External (Bahyantar)a. अनशन:

राग का उचे्छद, कमJ का तिवनाश, ध्र्योान, स्वाध्र्योार्यो की सिसद्धी के सिलरे्यो भोजन क त्र्योाग करना अनशन %प है।b. अवमौदर्य:

3 Loka bhavana helps in following: (this is my understanding so far)o broadens the perspective.o brings great clarity about the world- shows us that there is no bliss in any state other than

Sidhaa, Arihanto brings clarity in the state of souls, which it goes through during its cycle of birth and death.o Brings detachments from current life, because now he know that does not live just one life- he

lives multiple lifes. He does not have one wife- he has infinite wives in his infinite births.o Brings clarity how he oscillates in between Nigoda state and human state.o Brings clarity in what kind of Paapa he did in various states, and what did it result into.o We develop attachment with our ‘home’, ‘business place’, ‘parent’s place’ and other locations.

And we have hate from other places. Now with loka bhavana- one feels like a resident of 3 Loka, and not of India, Baye area or of his home. His attraction/repulsion from particular location gets washed away.

Clarity on Jeeva/Ajeeva:When we know and ponder over the various forms of soul- dev, naraki etc. 1) We see the different kind of body of the same soul- it helps one realize that soul is

something different than body. And emphasize that soul does not have color, smell, weight because these attributes keep changing with different births.

2) We see that in all states soul has the ‘Gyaan’- no matter how worst/best form it was. And this also exists in its purest state of Sidhaa- it shows that ‘Gyaan’ is the inherent quality.

3) Anger, Arrogance, Deceipt, greed keeps changing in the soul with varous states. Sometimes they are low, sometimes they are high. And one wrongly conclude here that emotions are also inherent nature of soul – which in incorrect. Because these emotions do not lie in the Sidhha state, and hence they are not the inherent qualities.

Clarity on Aasrav/Bandha:When one know and ponders over the various forms of soul- and thinks why one goes

through these forms. The answer is Aasrav and Banddha. One can see the results of Aasrav/Bandha done in these forms, which brings worst forms like Nigoda/Narak, and brings good ones like Deva/Kings- depending on kind of Aasrav done.

Clarity on Moksha:When one compares all the worldly beings with Sidhaa- he finds the drastic difference

between him and others.1) Every worldy being is going through some change, and he is not.2) All worldy beings are suffetring through the cycle of birth and death and he is not.3) All workldy beings are ignorant (here Samyakdrishti’s are not considered), but He

knows everything.4) He has infinite pleasure, which surpasses all kind of pleasures enjoyed by worldly

beings together.There Sidhaa state starts looking like The Destination to be in.

Clarity on Sanvar/Nirjara:When one looks at the souls who has the 3 Jewels, and getting favourable conditions in

future and ultimately Sidhha state- his belief in Sanvar/Nirjara strengthens.

Advantage in Samyakcharitra (winning Kashaya): Loka Bhavana helps in bringing Vairagya. Talked about it in last swadhyaya
