Shout Out from Graham Middle Norma Thompson, School Counselor
On Tuesday, Oct 13th, professionals from the community came to share their job experience with our 8th graders! Students heard from a reporter, a police officer, an ESL teacher, a graphic designer, a business owner, a social worker, a nurse, a case manager, a customer service representative and an advocate from a non-profit agency. Students took notes and asked questions to the participants, then wrote a report about their favorite job. Graham Middle is blessed to have such a supportive professional community, willing to come and share their expertise with our students!
Shout Out from E M Holt Elementary Elicia Limer, Assistant Principal We wanted to thank our wonderful E. M. Holt PTO for a successful Fall Festival and for organizing the activities for our Hispanic Heritage program. Both of these activities were a great way to involve our community and
bring families together. We could not do it without them!

Shout Out from Hillcrest Elementary Casey Malarney, School Counselor
Jesus Rogers-Salas and Noah Thornton are two fourth graders at our school. They organized a donation drive to benefit the Humane Society of Alamance County. These 2 boys participated in the Elon University summer leadership program and developed this idea as a leadership service project.
The project was a huge success! They raised over 150 items for the shelter including collars, food, toys, and blankets. So many classes donated that we are sure the shelter is going to be stocked for the season!
We are so proud of our young leaders!

Shout Out to Eastern High Dave Ebert, Principal
Garner Fleming of Eastern Alamance High School won top honors in the fourth North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Scholar-Athlete essay contest! The NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete program, sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard, is a voluntary program that recognizes athletes’ essay-writing excellence in addition to their skills on the playing court or field.
Student athletes submitted a 400-word essay in response to this year’s question “What challenge(s) have you overcome to develop as a Scholar-Athlete?” One male and one female winner were chosen from 65 entries from 38 different high schools across the state. This is the most entries ever received in one of the NCHSAA essay contests. The winners received a Fitbit Flex fitness wristband and a gift pack from the NCHSAA.
Garner Fleming is a junior who competes in football, wrestling and outdoor track. In his essay he states: “One of the biggest challenges for me is maintaining my grades, participating in the sports I love and then doing the things I feel are important for my personal contribution to my community.” Fleming says that time management is one of the primary obstacles for student-athletes. Congratulations!

Shout Out from North Graham Elementary to Graham High
Jordan Clifton- North Graham Elementary Theatre Arts Teacher Morgan Shearon- Graham High School Theatre Arts Teacher
Kindergarten students already have fantastic imaginations! Now, the Kindergartners at North Graham Elementary are becoming world class story tellers! With the help of Graham High School’s Theatre Arts Program, NGE students learned about the magic of story-telling and various styles of puppetry. GHS students took popular children’s books and transformed them into interactive performance pieces, using elements of Bunraku Puppetry and Interactive Theatre for Youth.
Students from Mrs. Johnson, Ms. Woody, and Ms. Sessoms classes joined the GHS Beginning Theatre class in the North Graham Drama and Dance Studio, kindergarten students helped these talented high school actors bring familiar stories such as; Five Little Monkeys, This Old Man, and Little Cloud to life on stage.

Shout Out from Eastern High Lauri Daughtrey, Pottery Teacher
Our Advanced Pottery students desired to create work and give back to their pottery program through retail sales. Knowing how expensive the pottery program is to operate, they were motivated to earn funds for the pottery department. We approached Solgarden, a shop in downtown Mebane and asked if they would be willing to display and sell our work. After meeting with the owner, and determining floor space that they would have available, the students designed a tower display out of a donated refurbished ladder. They even designed signage made out of clay! They met with Mr. Smith, our marketing teacher, to discuss what they would need to do in order to be successful with marketing and selling their work. They came up with a design for displaying work (which was an old ladder fashioned with re-purposed lumber) and worked with the Carpentry 1 students in Mr. Stewart's class to build sturdy shelving for the ladder display, Instead of Solgarden taking a "commission" on the pieces as would normally happen with a local artisan selling work to a retail business, the owner of the
shop, Ms. Kelli Potter, offered students a chance to earn the funds back for our pottery department. Students created an inventory of items that would be marketable, and are creating ongoing quality pottery that can be sold to earn money back for the school's pottery department. Items for sale include bowls, trays, cups, whistles, coasters, ornaments, and magnets. The display is complete and looks great!

Please visit Solgarden to check out EAHS Advanced Pottery Students work and support our program by purchasing a piece while supporting a local business that is investing in our young people at Eastern! Many thanks to Kelli Potter of Solgarden for her generous support!

Shout Out from A O Elementary to Western High Carmen White, Advisor
AO Elementary Goes Cross Country! The AO Elementary Girls' Running Club had the amazing opportunity to train with the Western Alamance Cross Country Team. Coach Stiegal and his team welcomed 32 AO Running Club Girls. These 4th and 5th grade girls had a beautiful day to train with this fantastic group of athletes! They worked hard, learned a lot, and had the chance to envision their future as a Warrior! Coach Stiegal shared that the XC team lead stretches, and AO team members were shown how to lace-lock shoes. “It was a pleasure working with the elementary kids, especially since several members of the current team are alumnae of this club.”

Shout Out to Smith Elementary Lindy Isley, Teacher and Librarian
The Smith Seabees have a major fundraising event coming up on November 7th. We will have a color run to
raise money for the PTO. To kick off
the event we had an assembly on
Wednesday afternoon. Jennifer
Smith, a PTO mom, started off the
assembly by telling the students all of
the events that will be taking place on
the Saturday morning of the event. In
addition to the running and walking
that will be going on, we will have an
obstacle course for the little ones
where they can get splattered with
paint. We will have a rock wall for
folks to climb. There will be a cake
walk and a cultural arts tent where our
VIF teachers will be sharing a little bit
about their countries of origin. Krispy
Kreme donuts will be sold. There will
be something for every member of the
family. To get the students and staff
fired up for the event, some guest runners at the assembly ran a lap
through the crowd and were pelted with paint. To run in the event it costs
$50 per person. For that fee you get a white t-shirt which can be worn
during the run so that paint will show up really well. Runners may be
sponsored by businesses and private donations. There are also signs for
sale supporting the run with students’ names and the name of businesses.
These yard signs cost
$25 and are on display
in the car circles at the
present time. They may be displayed proudly in the
participants’ yards just before the run. If you are interested
in joining the Seabees in their color run, go to our website
for all of the information.
Nothing like getting
painted for profits!!

Shout Out to Smith Elementary Candice Lewis, Guidance Counselor and
Lindy Isley, Librarian
To kick off Red Ribbon Week next week, the Williams DREAM Team came to Smith School on Tuesday, Oct 20, 2015.
They shared with our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students how important it is to stay drug and alcohol free. They also talked to
students about the importance of not bullying.
The Dream Team greeted students that morning,
then visited their classrooms to discuss Red Ribbon Week
and Bully Prevention. Students were excited and engaged
asking a variety of questions about being a student athlete
and being a high school student.
Thanks so much to the wonderful role models from
Williams for taking their time to reach out to the Seabees,
many of whom will one day be Bulldogs themselves!
