Shoulder resurfacing is an operation performed for pain relief from shoulder arthritis. The procedure consists of scraping the worn out cartilage at the end of the joint and capping it with a metal prosthesis. It is done through a small wound and the patient can be discharged in one day. It can be done in most cases of shoulder arthritis. It is superior to a replacement as only a few mm of worn out cartilage is scraped out. The prosthesis is fixed in the upper part of the humerus and doesn't penetrate the shaft of the humerus.
