Jeng Chung scolded Mei Sim for not acting like a girl (sittingwith legs spread, letting a boy touch her). Jeng Chung was offended by her husbands affair .Mei Sim, being oblivious to this beforehand, felt the need topreserve her own dignity, and eventually confronted herown lies.

They ran over a puppy and they were more worried abouthow it would bring bad luck instead of grieving at the loss ofa life.

Grand-aunty:Tolerated Jeng Chung as the niece married to a rich towkey

with her help in arranging the marriage.Hated her own flesh and blood just because it was said thather only daughter will eat her blood.

They need to adhore to their husbands wishes and be obedient. They also have to behave themselves.

The trishaw, Mrs. Cheung just poured the different coins into hiscoloured palm, then walked up without a word.
