SHORT REPORT GUIDELINES

The short report up to 4 A4 pages (excluding appendices) comprising the objectives, calculations, answers to the questions, discussion and conclusion.  This report is to be submitted 2 working days after completing the experiment and submitted to the report submission box in G09.

The demonstrators will mark these reports and make them available for collection at the beginning of the lab on the following week.

The report should comprise:

- 1. Objectives of the experiment, acknowledging the focus of the questions (this can include references/comparisons with literature if applicable).

How these objectives were achieved (1-2 sentence synopsis)

- 2. Results and discussion:o accurate calculated datao discussion of trendso answers to any questions o comparison of resultso interpretationo comparison with expectationso comments on errors

The raw data and calculations should be included as an appendix. Only include graphs or data that are referred to in the discussion.

- 3. Conclusion:o summary of findingso key numerical valueso comparison with expectationso limitations of worko future work needed

It is essential that all references and nomenclature is correct (instructions can be found in the Long Report Guidelines)

Marks will be allocated to correct labelling of tables, graphs, figures, references to appendices, presentation and writing style.

All the required components are listed in the marking sheet.

In order to complete the labs efficiently and submit the reports within the allowed time, all students must come to the labs well prepared. As a minimum, you must read the handout and it strongly recommended that you read and references listed.
