SHORELINER Volume 70, No. 11 November 2019 3115 Ocean Drive Corpus Christi, TX 78404-1614 361-888-8228 First Family, October brought us cooler temperatures and a time to reflect on some of the characteristics of God. One of those characteristics we looked at was peace. I hope you were reminded that God is able and God is willing to offer you His peace - a rest in the midst of the storm that passes all understanding. We are continuing this idea of rest into November with a look at Sabbath. As we move toward the holidays, I challenge you to practice a Sabbath rest and spend that time with God, looking at all the ways He is faithful in your life. Count your blessings! So often, we only realize what we have when it is no longer there. We often take for granted the blessings we have been given. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how God has blessed you and to offer thanks. From the smallest, most seemingly insignificant aspects of your life to life itself, God is active, involved and working. Praise Him for the fact that even when we don’t pay attention, He is still there for us - loving, providing, protecting and blessing! Praise Him today for the way He loves! First Family,

October brought us cooler temperatures and a time to reflect on some of the characteristics of God. One of those

characteristics we looked at was peace. I hope you were reminded that God is able and God is willing to offer you His peace - a

rest in the midst of the storm that passes all understanding.

We are continuing this idea of rest into November with a look at Sabbath. As we move toward the holidays, I challenge you to

practice a Sabbath rest and spend that time with God, looking at all the ways He is faithful in your life. Count your blessings! So

often, we only realize what we have when it is no longer there. We often take for granted the blessings we have been given.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how God has blessed you and to offer thanks. From the smallest, most seemingly

insignificant aspects of your life to life itself, God is active, involved and working. Praise Him for the fact that even when we don’t pay attention, He is still

there for us - loving, providing, protecting and blessing!

Praise Him today for the way He loves!

November is the month that we always focus on thankfulness. We look forward to the end of the month when we gather with family and friends to celebrate and eat as much as we can, only to regret it later! I would like to pose a question to you and your family— what are you thankful for this year? How has God blessed you? Take time to discuss these questions with your family or friends, and discover what others see as a blessing. Once you have discussed the blessings, think of ways that you can share your blessings with others. We are called on a daily basis to show others who Christ is to us and to share His great love with others. Simple ways to bless another person or family would be mailing a card of appreciation, sending baked goods, cooking a meal, or praying for them for the entire month of November. Be creative as you find ways to bless others! We all have so much to be thankful for and are deeply blessed. Thank you for being a blessing to our church—now go and share those blessings with others! Chris Skoglund Pastor of College & Family Ministries

First Baptist School During October, FBS children learned about Fire Prevention Week. Teachers instructed children on how to call 911; they described ways to prevent fires and what to do in case of a fire. Children were also taught that firemen are our friends and are here to help. The STEAM project for the month of October was “Measuring Pumpkins”. Did you know STEAM stands for: SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING ART MATH The “Measuring Pumpkins” project used a combination of the various disciplines to qualify for the STEAM project. Every class had fun measuring pumpkins for their project.

Mission Partners Mission Partners had a great meeting in October. We heard about the Romanian Mission Trip, prayed for missionaries and finished up our jump rope project. Because of the generosity of our church members donating t-shirts, cutting strips and lots and lots of braiding, we were able to send 40 jump ropes to the Dominican Republic, 40 jump ropes to Romania and we have over 600 jump ropes to put in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 12 at the Rec Center from 11:30 AM till 1:00 PM. Lunch cost is $8 per person. We will hear Bill and Andranette Humphries tell about their experiences teaching English and Bible in Ukraine using the New Testament as the textbook. We will also be receiving monetary donations to purchase Bibles for the FBC Food Pantry. Please call or text Doris Miller at 813-0482 to reserve your spot by the deadline, Sunday, November 3.
