The career wins leader in ShoreRegional history and one of the ShoreConference’s winningest activecoaches, Costantino has made theBlue Devils a perennial power and oneof the best small-school programs inNew Jersey.

“Coach Coz” helped the Blue Devilsadd two more championships this pastfall. They finished 11-1, repeated asClass B Central champions, and wontheir first Central Jersey Group I titlesince 2010 in their third straight trip tothe finals. Costantino also is serving asthe Monmouth County head coach inthis year’s U.S. Army All-ShoreGridiron Classic.

He has a career record of 153-85-1 since beginning his tenure as head coach in 1992,and has led the Blue Devils to seven division titles, 14 state playoff appearances, sevenappearances in the state finals, and state titles in 1997, 2010 and 2014. This isCostantino’s second time as head coach of the Monmouth County squad in the GridironClassic, as he led Monmouth to victory in the 1998 game.

His teamsare known forphysicaldefense and apunishingrunning gameout of theWing-T,which Shore Regional has employed as an offense since 1976. This pastfall, the Blue Devils were the Shore’s stingiest defense, allowing aconference-low 61 points (5.1 ppg) and posting six shutouts. They capturedtheir sixth state title in history with a 42-12 win over South Hunterdon.

Costantino started his coaching career in 1987 as an assistant underhead coach Bob Rolak after finishing up his collegiate playing career at William PatersonUniversity. He credits Rolak and former Shore head coaches Pete Sciarabba and NickCammarano as mentors who prepared him for when he eventually took over the head job.

Costantino also has been active in the Shore Football Coaches Foundation, serving aspresident and vice president over the years as well as serving on multiple committees. He

currently is a trustee for the SFCF. Costantino lives in West Long Branch with his wife,Felicia, and their two children, Michelle and Mark. The younger Costantino was an All-Shore player for his father who helped the Blue Devils reach the Central Jersey Group Ifinal in 2012.

Chris BarnesA former star running back atMiddletown North, Barnes was thearchitect of two outstanding programs atJackson Memorial and Wall during his 16years as a head coach.

After a tremendous high school careerfor the Lions in which he became theprogram’s all-time leading rusher underlegendary coach Vic Kubu, Barnes wenton to play at Syracuse University from1984-87. He began his coaching careerin 1988 as an assistant at MiddletownNorth under head coach Mike Galosbefore returning to Syracuse in 1989 as

a student assistant under Hall ofFamer Dick MacPherson.

He then rejoined the high schoolranks, serving as the quarterbackscoach and offensive coordinator atMiddletown North from 1990-93. In1994, he got his first head coachingjob at Jackson Memorial, where hetransformed a program that had littlesuccess in its history into achampionship squad. He coached the Jaguars from 1994-99, which included theprogram’s first state playoff win in history in 1999. Barnes set the foundation that resultedin back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2000 and 2001 under former coach ReggieLawrence for Jackson Memorial’s first state titles.

Barnes left Jackson Memorial to take the head job at Wall, which he brought to itsgreatest heights since its heyday in the early 1980s under Hall of Famer John Amabile. From 2000-2011, Barnes led the Crimson Knights to five division titles, nine state playoffappearances, two trips to the state finals, and the 2002 Central Jersey Group IIIchampionship. The 2002 season marked Wall's third state title in history and first since1983. Wall was 90-38 during Barnes’ tenure and also produced an NFL player, currentTampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Tim Wright.

Barnes has been an active member of the Shore Conference Football CoachesFoundation from its inception, serving in various positions for the association, includingpresident, committee meeting facilitator and contributor to college recruiting fairs. He alsohas the unique distinction of having coached both the Monmouth County and OceanCounty teams in the U.S. Army All-Shore Gridiron Classic, including a win by Monmouthin 2003.

Barnes lives in Brielle with his wife, Julia, and their three daughters. He is more thancontent to spend most afternoons on the sidelines as a devoted spectator for hischildren's soccer, lacrosse and softball games, and he continues to serve in the field ofeducation as a School Counselor at Wall High School.

Chris ChristopherA longtime fixture on the local sports scene,Christopher has worked for numerousnewspapers and covered Shore Conferencefootball for nearly 40 years.

He began writing sports at only eight yearsold for the Ocean County Daily Times inLakewood, which was owned by his father,Sam. The elder Christopher died at 87 yearsold in February after a career in which hisname became synonymous with OceanCounty journalism.

Chris has carried on the family tradition bywriting for the Jackson News, a weekly paperthat was owned by his father, the OceanCounty Observer, and The Asbury Park Pressduring his career. He currently covers highschool, college, recreational and youth sports for The Two River Times in Red Bank andThe Coaster in Asbury Park.

Christopher has won three New Jersey Press Association sportswriting awards duringhis career, and at one point wrote for 17 different newspapers and their websites at onetime. He has covered all levels of sports, from youth to the professionals, and hasinterviewed everyone from Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson to T-ball players. He hasalso worked in sports on local cable television and local radio.

However, Christopher has always considered Shore Conference high school football hisfirst love, enjoying the players, the coaches, the fans, the cheerleaders, the bands and thereferees, and he loves the smell of hot dogs on a Saturday afternoon in high schoolstadiums. He believes high school football is one of the few remaining pieces ofcommunity in what is unfortunately becoming a more impersonal society. He also takes adeep interest in chronicling the exploits of the numerous former Shore Conferenceathletes who have starred in collegiate and professional sports.

Christopher covered local luminaries like former Central Regional pitcher Al Leiter, whostarred for the Golden Eagles in the 1980s and went on to fame with the New York Metsand Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins. Currently, Christopher is proudlycovering the Lakewood BlueClaws, one of the top draws in minor-league baseball, whichhe has covered since their inception in 2000. Still, he says “there is nothing like coveringShore Conference sports.”

The final 2014 top 10 rankings were compiled by a committee of ShoreSports Network’s Scott Stump, Bob Badders, Kevin Williams, MattHarmon and Ed Sarluca.

Jackson Memorial proved this season that it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. The Jaguars may not have won their division, but that didn’t stop them from

unseating Red Bank Catholic as the No. 1 team in the Shore Conference to end theCaseys’ three-year reign atop the rankings. Jackson finished the season 11-1 aftercapturing its first Central Jersey Group IV title since 2005. In their final regular-seasongame, the Jaguars ended RBC’s 40-game winning streak against Shore Conferencecompetition by winning a 33-27 overtime thriller on their home field. They also emphatically avenged their lone loss of the season by beating Class A South

champion Brick 44-0 in the sectional semifinals. The Jaguars not only finished atop theShore, but also have finished the season ranked No. 2 in the state in most state-widerankings while also finishing as the No. 1 public school team in New Jersey this fall.Despite losing a quality senior class from an eight-win team a year ago, the Jaguarsmore than reloaded to come roaring to the front of the pack after being under the radarin the preseason. With a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, sophomore Mike Gawlik and junior Vinny Lee,

returning along with junior wide receiver/defensive back Kyle Johnson, junior kickerJared Calhoun and a host of other talent, the Jaguars look to once again be right in themix in 2015. It was a banner season overall for the Shore Conference with a record six state

champions, with five of them making the final Top 10 in one of the most competitiveconferences in New Jersey.

Final Shore Sports Network Top 10 Recap1. Jackson Memoria l (11-1)The Jaguars won their first Central Jersey Group IV title since 2005 and their fourth state title in

history with a 21-18 win over No. 5 Middletown South under the guidance of Shore Sports NetworkCoach of the Year Walt Krystopik. They also boast a 33-27 win over No. 2 Red Bank Catholic and a44-0 win over No. 6 Brick for an impressive resume that makes them the first public school team tofinish No. 1 in the Shore since an undefeated Lacey squad in 2010. They also set a school record forpoints with 423 for the season and had a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in the same season for the first timein history. They lose a talented senior class filled with All-Shore selections but with a pair of 1,000-yardrushers returning in Vinny Lee and Mike Gawlik, they showed this season they have the ability to reloadfor another run.

2. Red Bank Catho l ic (11-1)The Caseys may have lost their perch at the top, but they will gladly trade that for the fact that they

brought home their first state championship since 1976. They made a dominating run to the Non-PublicGroup III title under coach Jim Portela, blasting Bishop Eustace 62-7, routing three-time defendingchampion St. Joseph’s-Montvale 44-14 and then taking care of Delbarton 45-20 in the final. They alsopicked up lop-sided wins over No. 3 Manalapan, No. 7 Neptune, and No. 9 Long Branch and won ClassB North for their fifth straight division title. RBC won a school-record 11 games and set the single-season school record for points scored with 543 to lead the Shore Conference. They graduate anotheroutstanding senior class led by Shore Sports Network Defensive Player of the Year Jamie Gordinier, butwith junior quarterback Eddie Hahn, junior running back/linebacker Dylan Murphy, junior two-waylineman Liam Smith and plenty more talent returning, they once again should be among the best in theShore and the state in 2015.

3. Manalapan (11-1)The Braves made history under coach Ed Gurrieri by capturing their first state title when they knocked

off previously undefeated South Brunswick 21-7 to claim the Central Jersey Group V crown in their

fourth straight trip to the state finals. They tied the school record for wins with their third straight 11-win season and also won their fifth straight division title. They graduate a tremendous senior class ledby first-team All-Shore picks Kyle Mullen, Imamu Mayfield, Mike Caggiano, and Dan Debner, buthave proven they are immune to graduation losses with their run over the past few years.

4. S t . John V ianney (10-1)The Lancers had their best season since the early 1980s in their first year under head coach Mark

Ciccotelli, taking home the Class A Central title for their first division crown since 1982 and goingundefeated against Shore Conference competition. They also won their first state playoff game since1981 before falling to Delbarton in the Non-Public Group III semifinals. The Lancers had wins over No.10 Rumson-Fair Haven, the Central Jersey Group II champion, as well as Central Jersey Group IIIchampion Matawan and South Jersey Group III semifinalist Central, which was the Class B South co-champion. Their explosive offense averaged 42 points per game, second in the Shore Conference, andreturns several of its key players next season, led by first-team All-Shore selection Anthony Brown, ajunior quarterback. Wide receiver/cornerback Khalil Haskins, fullback/linebacker Calvin Beaty, linemanMicah Clark, wideout/defensive back Jeff Sheard, linebacker Tyler Tedeschi, and kicker Joe Rice allreturn next season to form what should once again be one of the Shore’s best teams.

5. Midd le town South (9-3) The Eagles reached their 11th state final in the past 14 years under coach Steve Antonucci

and gave No. 1 Jackson Memorial a battle before falling 21-18 for their fifth straight loss ina state championship game. Their only losses were to No. 3 Manalapan, Central Jersey GroupV finalist South Brunswick, and the Jaguars, and they had two wins over No. 7 Neptune. With a loaded junior class led by the Rogers twins, Dylan and Cole, as well asquarterback/kicker Matt Mosquera, as well as a stellar sophomore class led by linebackerJames McCarthy, this team has a ton of firepower returning to finally get over the hump andbring home its first state title since 2006 next season.

6. Br ick (9-2)The Green Dragons won their first division title since 2008 under coach Rob Dahl by claiming the

Class A South crown and handing No. 1 Jackson Memorial its only loss of the season with a 30-24overtime victory. Their two losses were a 44-0 loss to Jackson in the Central Jersey Group IV semifinalsand a regular-season loss to Wall. They graduate a senior class headlined by quarterback CarmenSclafani that made up nearly all of their starting lineup, so they will have a ton of production to replacenext season to try to stay in the hunt in Class A South.

7. Neptune (8-3)The Scarlet Fliers reached the Central Jersey Group IV semifinals in their first season under head

coach Rodney Taylor before falling to Middletown South. Two of their three losses were to the Eaglesand the other one was to No. 2 Red Bank Catholic. Their signature win was a 27-0 shutout of No. 9 LongBranch in which they held record-setting Long Branch senior tailback Dahmiere Willis to 17 yardsrushing. Neptune graduates an outstanding class featuring the likes of Royal Moore, Oshane Curate,Andrew Holland-Samuels and Jaree Parrish, so there will be a lot for them to have to replace next fall.

8. Shore Reg iona l (11-1)The Blue Devils turned in one of their best seasons in their history under coach Mark Costantino as

they marched to their first Central Jersey Group I title since 2010 and the sixth in their history afterreaching the finals for the third straight year. They also captured their second straight Class B Centraltitle thanks to the stingiest defense in the Shore, which allowed a conference-low 61 total points. Theyhave a win over No. 10 Rumson-Fair Haven, and their only loss was to state finalist Dunellen whileplaying without two of their top players. While they graduate a strong senior class led by linebackerJames Bedell and running back/defensive back Mike Moore, they return standout juniorfullback/linebacker Doug Goldsmith as well as junior running back Tyreek McCain and others to gearup for another run.

9. Long Branch (8-3)The story of the season for the Green Wave was senior tailback Dahmiere Willis, who earned Shore

Sports Network Offensive Player of the Year honors after rushing for a Shore Conference-record 2,589yards, the second-highest total in state history. Long Branch reached the Central Jersey Group IIIsemifinals before falling to Carteret, a team it beat 31-6 earlier in the season. Their three losses were toCarteret, No. 7 Neptune and No. 2 RBC. The Green Wave also had a win over Central Jersey Group IIIchampion Matawan in which Willis racked up a single-game school-record 370 yards rushing, and theybeat Central Jersey Group II champion Rumson-Fair Haven. Long Branch loses a tremendous seniorclass led by Willis, linebackers Hunter Baillie and Brandon Lane, tight end/defensive end John Mimes, and cornerback Dave Colbert, but do return three junior starters on the offensive line and somepromising skill talent.

10. Rumson -Fa ir Haven (9-3)The Bulldogs won their second straight Central Jersey Group II title in two years under coach Bryan

Batchler, blanking Delaware Valley 21-0 in another defensive gem in the finals. They also had a 31-10regular-season win over Central Jersey Group III champion Matawan. Their losses were to No. 4 St.John Vianney, No. 8 Shore and No. 9 Long Branch, two of which came with star tailback Charlie Volkerout of the lineup with an ankle injury. While Volker moves on to continue his career at Princeton andthe Bulldogs lose some other solid seniors, their sophomore class is loaded, led by quarterback MikeO’Connor and linebacker Mike Ruane. They should be a legitimate threat to make it three straight statetitles in 2015.
