The final top 10 rankings were compiledby a committee of Shore Sports Network’sBob Badders, Kevin Williams, Matt Harmonand Ed Sarluca.

When the 2015 season began, the Shore Conferencewas coming off a record-setting season in which it hadsix NJSIAA state sectional champions crowned.Seeing what the conference did for an encore wassomething special.

The Shore sent a record nine teams to state finalsand once again came away with six champions as itdominated championship Saturday around NewJersey. Middletown South and Shore both finishedundefeated, the first time the conference has had anunbeaten team since 2010. The Eagles went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in the Shore Sports NetworkTop 10, and ended up finishing as the No. 1 team inNew Jersey. The Blue Devils crushed everyone in theirpath to win their second straight Central JerseyGroup I title and extend their program-recordwinning streak to 20 games.

Jackson Memorial capped a brilliant turnaround towin its second straight Central Jersey Group IV title, while Rumson-Fair Haven won the Battle of RidgeRoad with Red Bank in the Central Jersey Group IIIfinal to become just the fifth Shore Conference teamto claim three consecutive state championships.

Raritan finished off one of the most memorableplayoff runs in recent years by stunning previously-unbeaten Lincoln with a last-minute, game-winningdrive to win the Central Jersey Group II crown. TomsRiver North won what is usually considered thetoughest public school bracket in the state, SouthJersey Group V, for its sixth sectional championship.

St. John Vianney fell just short in its pursuit ofperfection when it fell to DePaul in the Non-PublicGroup III final.

After weeks of summer practice and 13 weeks ofgames, heroics and heartbreak, disappointment anddelirium, we present the final 2015 Shore SportsNetwork Top 10.

Final Shore Sports Network Top 101 . Middletown South (12-0)

The Eagles snapped their title drought in a major way by finishing12-0 and capturing the North Jersey Section 2, Group IV title with a35-7 win over Phillipsburg for their 10th state title and first since 2005.The Eagles started the season by coming from behind to beat eventualCentral Jersey Group V champion South Brunswick and never lookedback, storming through the Shore Conference schedule beforedominating in the playoffs. The Eagles also captured the Class A Northdivision title, their first since 2009. The offense was fantastic againled by a dominant running game and efficient passing game, andaveraged over 40 points per game. Senior tailback Cole Rogers ranfor 1,570 yards and 24 touchdowns, and senior quarterback MattMosquera threw for 1,509 yards and 19 touchdowns. MiddletownSouth’s defense was again among the best in New Jersey in allowinga conference-low 7.4 points per game. Senior linebacker Dylan Rogersbroke his own single-season program record for tackles with 132 andled the ferocious unit that also included standout linebackers JamesMcCarthy and Kevin Higgins, defensive backs Maxx Imsho and TomCoffey, and defensive linemen Will Gulick and Jake Krellin. AlthoughMiddletown South will lose several talented players to graduation, theEagles have an outstanding junior class that should have them onceagain competing for a state championship and the top spot in the Shorein 2016.

2. Toms River North (11-1)

Arguably the most talented team in the Shore Conference, theMariners put it all together in 2015 to win their final 10 games andclaim the South Jersey Group V title with a 14-7 win overWilliamstown. After a 52-20 loss to Brick Memorial in Week Twothreatened to derail its season, Toms River North regrouped to startan epic run that ended with the program’s sixth sectional title. AmongToms River North’s wins was a 33-23 victory over Central JerseyGroup IV champion Jackson Memorial. The Mariners also beat Brick26-14 to clinch a share of the Class A South division title. In theplayoffs, the Mariners’ defense came to life in allowing just 14 points

in three games, which also included a 35-7 win over Kingsway and a14-0 shutout of top-seeded Lenape in the semifinals. The Marinershad one of the most dynamic offenses in the Shore with dual-threatjunior quarterback Mike Husni and powerful senior running backAsante Moorer. Husni ran and threw for over 1,000 yards each andfinished with over 2,500 yards of total offense and 31 touchdowns.Moorer ran for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns to form one of NewJersey’s most potent backfields. Senior defensive lineman DashonCopes had an amazing season with over 100 tackles and double-digitsacks for a unit that finished 10th in the Shore in scoring defense.Husni returns next season along with his top wide receivers, DarrionCarrington and Bryce Watts, plus running back Daryn Blackwell, sothe Mariners should once again be formidable on offense in 2016.The defense will also bring back standout linebacker Pete Laquagliaas the Mariners look to continue their resurgence.

3. St . John V ianney ( 1 1 - 1 )The Lancers fell just short of perfection and the program’s firststate title in 35 years when they lost to three-time championDePaul, 40-17, in the Non-Public Group III final. The Lancershave won 20 straight games against Shore Conferencecompetition and won 21 games in the last two seasons. Their 11wins this year are a program record. Senior quarterback AnthonyBrown capped a brilliant career with over 2,000 passing yards,600 rushing yards and 43 total touchdowns for the No. 1 scoringoffense in the Shore Conference. The Lancers defeated CentralJersey Group III champion Rumson-Fair Haven, Central JerseyGroup II champion Raritan and blasted defending Non-PublicGroup III champion Red Bank Catholic 49-6 in the finals for oneof the program’s biggest wins in decades. Senior wide receiverMike Stapert led the Shore in receiving yards and junior ChrisChukwuneke fueled the running game with over 800 yards. Juniordefensive lineman Micah Clark, linebackers Calvin Beaty andTyler Tedeschi, and defensive backs Khalil Haskins and JeffSheard led a defense that finished sixth in the Shore in pointsallowed. St. John Vianney will have to replace numerous talentedplayers, but is banking on continuing their run as one of the topprograms in the Shore.

4. Shore ( 12 -0)In pushing their program-record winning streak to 20 games andclaiming their second straight Central Jersey Group I title, the BlueDevils cemented their legacy as one of two undefeated teams inprogram history. Shore walloped almost every single team on itsschedule, and also boasts a 20-13 win over Central Jersey Group IIIchampion Rumson-Fair Haven. The offense was against dominant inthe running game with running backs Doug Goldsmith and JackBritton leading the way. Shore’s defense was again among the best inthe Shore, finishing No. 2 in scoring defense at 7.6 points per gamewith standouts Erik Graham, Connor Rempel, Jeremy Redaelli, SteveFiumefreddo, Goldsmith and Britton. Plenty of talent will be lost tograduation, but the Blue Devils have proven to be one of the state’smost consistent teams and should be expected to reload in 2016.

The Eagles reached heightsmost didn’t think possible in the day and age of high-poweredparochial schools by finishing No. 1 in the state by NJ.com. Theyare the first public school to finish as the top-ranked team inthe state since they did it in 2005 with a team featuring futureNFL running back Knowshon Moreno and Stanfordlinebacker Nick Macaluso.

What separated Middletown South was its greatness in all three phases of thegame. A high-scoring offense, a shutdown defense and special teams that didall the right things made it tough to find any weakness to try to exploit.

“We had all those great players but it was reallyabout having no star,” Antonucci said. “We had Coleand Dylan (Rogers), but week to week you look atwhat we did and there were different namesinvolved in our wins. Jeff Lewandowski returns theopening kickoff of the state championship (to the 9-yard line) - Jeremy Joyce, Tom Coffey, SpencerPereless - there were a litany of names that madeus special.”“And the same thing on defense,” Antonucci continued. “It’s maybe the best

group of linebackers (Dylan Rogers and juniors James McCarthy and KevinHiggins) I’ve ever had, all together, and then you add Maxx Imsho at strongsafety,” Antonucci said. “How do you handle all these guys?”

Middletown South is the model of consistency in the Shore Conference andAntonucci is one of the most respected coaches in the state. Coming into theseason the Eagles had reached 11 sectional finals in the last 14 seasons, but hadnot been able to take home a state title since 2006. The Eagles had been 0-5 instate finals since, including a loss to Jackson Memorial in the 2014 CentralJersey Group IV final.

This season the Eagles got back in the championship win column with a 35-7 victory over Phillipsburg in the North Jersey Section 2, Group IVchampionship game to complete a wire-to-wire finish as the No. 1 team in theShore Conference.

“After you don’t experience something like this for nine years, it brings backthat hunger for it,” Antonucci said following the championship game.

With all the talk of a potential return to glory in the preseason, things didn’tstart out the way Middletown South had hoped. The Eagles fell behind 21-3 toSouth Brunswick in the season-opener, but what happened over the next threequarters set the tone for the entire season. Middletown South stormed back towin that game 41-21 and never looked back.

Middletown South would go on to score 40 points or more in its next fivegames while recording three shutouts. That included a 42-7 win over aManalapan team that had won five straight games against the Eagles, andsubsequently five straight Class A North division titles. Then came another bigregular-season test against Brick Memorial where the Eagles shut down theMustangs’ powerful triple-option offense in a 21-3 win.

They cruised into the playoffs with an 8-0 record where they crushedWest Windsor-Plainsboro North55-0 and blew out rival MiddletownNorth 41-14. The Eagles then beatMiddletown North 39-16 onThanksgiving to wrap up their firstdivision title since 2009.

Phillipsburg was the two-timedefending sectional champion and is astoried program, but the Eagles were juston another level.

Under Antonucci, Middletown Southhad the Shore Conference’s No. 1 scoringdefense at 7.4 points per game. Led byDylan Rogers, the Shore Sports NetworkDefensive Player of the Year, the Eaglesdefense allowed more than 20 pointsjust once during the season. Rogersfinished with single-season programrecord 132 tackles, and McCarthy andHiggins teamed with him to form oneof the state’s most fearsome groups oflinebackers. Imsho tied for the ShoreConference lead in interceptions withseven and Coffey added six. Defensivelinemen Will Gulick, a junior, and JakeKrellin, a sophomore, played standout rolesas well.

Offensively, Cole Rogers ran for 1,570 yards and24 touchdowns and senior quarterback Matt Mosquerathrew for 1,509 yards and 19 touchdowns as the Eaglesaveraged 40.9 points per game, second best in the ShoreConference.

Antonucci kept his team focused the entire way, as there were no letups against a schedule that included a Central Jersey Group Vchampion South Brunswick, Central Jersey Group IV finalist BrickMemorial and playoff teams Freehold Township, Manalapan andFreehold in the regular season.

“The one thing about this group is they werevery loose, but when the whistle blew and the game

started they gave you maximum effort,” Antonucci said. “Theynever got flustered. You go back to Jackson last year (in theCentral Jersey Group IV final) down 21-3 and we fought andclawed back. The South Brunswick game was the same thing, but we never felt like we were out of the game.”“The one thing about these guys is that when they had you down you weren’tgetting back up.”

With the win, Antonucci tied retired Hall of Famers Mike Ciccotelli ofKeyport and Warren Wolf of Brick with the second-most state titles of anycoach in Shore Conference history with the sixth of his brilliant career.Antonucci, who played for Ciccotelli on the Red Raiders in the late 1980s,is now only behind late Hall of Famer Vic Kubu, who had 11 titlesbetween stints at Middletown North and Manasquan.

i th a remarkablerun of 21 wins and just two

losses over the past two seasons, it wasobvious St. John Vianney was aprogram full of talent on both sides ofthe ball. But for every opponent theLancers faced there was no questionwho was the No. 1 player they had tostop.St. John Vianney’s high-powered offense was driven by senior

quarterback Anthony Brown, the 2015 Shore Sports NetworkOffensive Player of the Year. Brown was a major reason St. JohnVianney was able to set a program record for wins in a season with 11,win back-to-back division titles for the first time in history and reachthe NJSIAA Non-Public Group III championship for the first time in 33years.

The Boston College-bound Brown completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,355yards and 34 touchdowns with just five interceptions, while rushing for over 600yards and nine touchdowns. His passing yardage and touchdown totals led the ShoreConference, and his 43 total touchdowns are the second most in a season in ShoreConference history, one behind the 44 scored by Mater Dei Prep quarterbackChristian Palmer last season. In two seasons as St. John Vianney’s startingquarterback, Brown threw for 4,554 yards and 59 touchdowns and ran for over1,400 yards with 17 touchdowns. The Lancers finished the season as theShore Conference’s No. 1 scoring offense at 43 points per game.

“He is one of those special kids, andthat’s exactly why he’s going to aspecial place at Boston College,” saidLancers head coach Derek Sininsky.“He has the whole package. He canthrow, he can run and he is a leader. We’re on the practice field and if he’snot in at quarterback or safety withthe first team, he’s playing on thescout team. You just couldn’t get thekid off the field. He would run playsat wide receiver and cornerback. He can play anywhere. He’s a superbathlete all around.”

At the helm of then-head coach Mark Ciccotelli’s offense in2014, Brown burst onto the scene to lead the Lancers to the

If there is a player who bestexemplifies the controlled

chaos of Middletown South’s ferocious defense,it’s senior linebacker Dylan Rogers.A tackling machine and a heat-seeking missile on blitzes, Rogers,

the 2015 Shore Sports Network Defensive Player of the Year, concluded his tremendous career by helping the Eagles finish off theprogram’s 10th sectional championship with a perfect 12-0 seasonand finish as the No. 1 team in New Jersey. The final game of hiscareer was a vintage Rogers performance, as he was all over thefield in a 35-7 win over Phillipsburg in the North Jersey Section 2,Group IV championship game with 15 tackles and four sacks.

One of New Jersey’s top linebackers, Rogers finished theseason with a program-record 132 tackles, breaking the record heset last season with 122, and recorded 11 sacks for the No. 1 scoringdefense in the Shore Conference. He also had 23 tackles for loss, 20quarterback pressures, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and adefensive touchdown.

“He plays with reckless abandon, but undercontrol,” said Middletown South head coach SteveAntonucci. “When you look up linebacker he’sthe perfect definition of the position. That’sDylan, he’s exactly what you want. He hasa motor like no one and an excitementto find the football. And when he getsthere he wants to do damage.”

“Plus he’s a very sharp kid. He’s the one checking all of ourpressures and such out there.”

Middletown South’s defense allowed just 7.4 points per gameand recorded four shutouts, and allowed just one opponent to scoreover 20 points in a game. That came in Week One, a 41-21comeback victory over South Brunswick where the Eagles scored

the final 38 points of the game en route to a perfectseason.

South Brunswick went on to win theCentral Jersey Group V title, and theEagles also posted a 21-3 win overCentral Jersey Group IV finalist BrickMemorial where Rogers led a unit thatshut down the Mustangs’ explosivetriple-option rushing attack.Middletown South also had victoriesover playoff teams Manalapan,Freehold and FreeholdTownship, and beat rivalMiddletown North both inthe playoff semifinals andon Thanksgiving. Thelatter gave the Eagles theClass A North division

made an impact.

“Every year he got better andbetter and you could startcomparing him to the (all-timegreat Middletown Southlinebackers),” Antonucci said.

St. John Vianney had huge expectations cominginto the season, but uncertainly surrounded theprogram when Ciccotelli abruptly left the team inAugust. Sininsky was hired shortly after, but theLancers were a team in turmoil right up until theseason-opening game against rival Matawan.

“From the beginning to the endof the season, what stood out washow much he matured,”Sininsky said. “You have tolook at what washappening here. Heshowed the leadershipskills that he has.We saw him gofrom a highs c h o o lquarterback toa mature collegequarterback thatBoston College isgetting nextmonth.”“We had a lot of emotions flying around at the time,

and we were all a little selfish,”Brown said. “We needed to cometogether as a team, and we did. That’s what got us (to the statefinal).

Brown had several standoutgames this season, includingthrowing for 298 yards and fivetouchdowns and running for 116yards in a 56-26 win over eventualCentral Jersey Group II championRaritan. He threw a 75-yard

Even in theLancers’ onlyloss of theseason, a 40-17 setback tothree-time champion DePaulin the Non-Public GroupIII final, Brown was onpoint. He threw for 234yards and atouchdown and ranfor another against a defense that featured multipleFBS recruits.

“I’ve never even faced a player like thatbefore,” said Sininsky, a defensive mind who’scoaching career has included head-coachingstints at Raritan and Marlboro, and as anassistant at Colts Neck. “By far he issomebody that is on a platform I’ve neverseen before.”
