During your visit, drop by an orchard or a winery and visit one of several family-owned restaurants and specialty shops. October brings juried arts and crafts festival Catoctin Colorfest, aptly named for the kaleidoscope of Fall colors. Come for the view but stay for the food, fun and shopping experiences.

Historic and QuaintHome of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first U.S. born saint, and Mount Saint Mary’s University, you’ll find Emmitsburg’s rich Catholic history in places like the local bookstore and coffee shop. Also home to the National Emergency Training Center, restaurants and shops highlight the town’s strong ties to the commitment of our Nation’s safety all with a picturesque small town charm.

Where Old Meets NewSince 1793 when Main Street was once part of the National Turnpike, one thing has remained the same in New Market: visitors always feel welcome. Ninety-percent of the nearly 100 buildings in the linear historic district were built in the early 19th century. Foodies can indulge in wonderful restaurants after a day with the children at the local Children’s Museum and unique shopping downtown.

All-American HometownThe trolley provided access to and from Frederick for Myersville residents in the early 1900’s. Although the railway no longer exists, today, the town still caters to its residents with a small downtown area. The local diner is a place where residents gather and the market is a haven for locally grown items. A trip to downtown Myersville is small town living at its finest.

Where Heritage Lives OnDeeply rooted in the fabric of Frederick County’s agricultural history is Walkersville. Surrounded by some of the County’s most fertile farmland, the downtown area is a step back into time where residents give a friendly wave to passersby. Shops are quaint, parks are plentiful and Main Street leads to the town’s restored 1920’s depot, open for an excursion or a dinner train if the schedule allows.
