You are now our guest, we welcome you with open arms and half full bottles of rum. Let us take you on a journey.

Glide down the steps into our basement haven and forget all your problems at the door. Join the atmosphere of an exotic refuge, an island oasis within the metropolis.

Stay with us long enough and you might just witness some moments of magic, after the rum has gently eroded away inhibitions and the outside world seems like a distant memory.

Heebies has firmly won a place in Liverpool drinker’s hearts as one of the coolest bars, spanning three floors and a delightful courtyard. Serving an array of thirst quenching beverages and hazy memories for the past seven years, Heebie Jeebies was originally a basement bar dedicated to jazz.

We can picture music hungry party goers fighting the urge to sleep with a soundtrack of soft Jazz and Blues.

Heebies has expanded its repetoire and now offers soul and indie nights and you can hire the second floor for private parties. Open late, seven nights a week. Free room hire available, ideal for celebrations of all sorts. Please see website for details.

Part night-market, part night-club, Food Slam Friday is a weekly large-scale event all about enjoying great quality street food and drink, set against a club soundtrack, as four hundred plus punters come and play in one of the city’s coolest spaces.

With no reservations it’s informal and it’s social – hop from food stall to stall sampling different dishes, chat to vendors and try new cocktails – just pay for what you eat and drink - this is brave, punchy dining straight from the street.

Incorporating tastings and workshops and showcasing new food trends, theFood Slams also champion culinary and drink ambassadors from throughout the UK who guest at the Friday night parties.

Parting Shot Emerging artist Jack Iffla talks us through his inspirations and experimentations in art. His artwork is featured in our centrefold pull out poster.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated with people and particularly faces. Starting off painting with portraits, encouraged by my foundation tutor at Bourneville School of Art who assisted in helping me with my technical ability until I was painting in acrylic and oil. I’m always inspired by artists who are technically gifted such as Stanhope Forbes, William Hogarth, William Frith and Norman Rockwell. More recently New Zealand based illustrator Adam Tan, who sadly passed away recently, has been an inspiration. He was undeniably a genius and created his own visual language unlike any contemporary illustrators around today.

I think art is a fantastic way to make a political statement, art after all is the oldest form of communication and it is one that the most people can relate to or interpret. It also allows the application of humour which can sometimes be necessary when dealing with such a serious topic.

My current project The Northern Lights is a children/young adults book and was actually made into a blockbuster movie The Golden Compass. The film was an appalling, Hollywood version of an actually quite dark and gritty book. I wanted to create the world of the Golden Compass - but using much darker imagery than shown in the film.

Want to see your artwork featured. No matter what you’re visual medium - holla:[email protected]
