At the Council of Governor’s Meeting in June our District was singled out as the District with the highest net growth in membership. We also were recognized for having chartered three Lions Clubs and three Leo Clubs. We are the only District that achieved a Cyber Lions Club and a Campus Lions Club in Multiple District 19 this year. They are innovative and new to the Lions family. We can all be proud to be part of the future of Lions Clubs International. I sincerely thank all of you for uniting our District as the strength of the clubs has created unity within our District. I would like to extend a special thanks to each Zone Chairperson for going the extra distance starting in Wenatchee at the Zone School in June 2011. At our first meeting we all agreed on the District goals and strategized on their implementation for our new year. I am blessed to have had the privilege of working with each of you this year and could never have had the success without your dedication and support. I am pleased to report that with the participation of all the clubs in our District we have exceeded our goal and raised $55,380 to date for the LCIF Measles Initiative. With the $2 to $1 Matching Grant from the Melinda & Bill Gates Foundation we manage to save 83,070 lives. This year we achieved a record turnout for the Leo and New Century Lions Conference. The information breakout sessions were very well received. This year’s innovative approach will be taken back by Lions leaders from other Districts to implement in their local youth conferences. The Leos had a tree planting project sponsored by the District and Mayor Derrick Corrigan of the City of Burnaby planted over 350 trees in the Byrne Creek Ravine in Burnaby on March 12, 2012 in support of International President Wing-Kun Tam’s theme of planting one million trees around the world. INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

JUNE 2012

I celebrate with you my fellow Lions, Lionesses, Leos for achieving all of our goals this year.

With a special thanks to our Spring Conference Committee for putting on a conference with record breaking attendance of 420 registrants. District I Governor Al Beddows and Mrs. Dorothy Neills from District D were invited as judges found the experience very exciting and gave them good ideas to take back to their districts.

I learned this year that communication is key to our success. It is crucial that cabinet minutes and other information be share with our membership. This has created a bond and synergy within our District

As my year as District Governor comes to a close I find my service to all of you very humbling and uplifting. The friendship and memory of all my visits to your clubs have found a place in my heart for ever. I look forward to continue working on the projects that we have not finished yet and continue to ensure the growth and unity that we have developed in our District. I sincerely thank you all for making this the best year imaginable.

Yours in Lionism, DG Linda Wong

LEO Clubs – Inves ng in t he Future

By PZC Karl Ostheller

Wow! The end of the Lions year is nearly here. It is also the time when a LEO club is really flourishing or has gone into hibernation mode until next fall. Kudos for this past year go the following clubs. Leading the way are the District 19-H LEO’s with clubs in Guildford, Langley, Kwantlen Park, Barnet Pinetree, Surrey, San Juan, and the new club in Coupeville.

The clubs in this district have been active, growing and heavily involved in community projects. In District 19-E, the outstanding clubs have been in Priest River and Golden. The Warden LEO’s continue to be the LEO force in District 19-D, while District 19-C has the Bonney Lake LEO’s, the outstanding club at North Mason, the Bremerton HS LEO’s, and the three LEO clubs sponsored by the Poulsbo Lions.

Saving the best for last, District 19-A once again has the MD19 “LEO of the Year,” Julie Lym, who comes from the Vancouver West LEO Club. This is a

club with outstanding projects and great leadership from their advisors and membership.
