Benjamin Yudin, Rabbi Andrew Markowitz, Associate Rabbi Shomrei Torah Shabbat Bamidbar 2 Sivan, 5777/ May 26-27, 2017 PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN: IN HONOR OF PARSHAT BAMIDBAR AND THE HOLIDAY OF SHAVUOT Not all brachot are created equal. Most brachot including brachot recited before performing a mitzvah, and before eating are Rabbinic. The Birkat Hamazon recited after eating bread and according to the Ramban, the Chinuch and the Rashba, Birkat HaTorah recited each morning by men and women, are Biblical. Rabbeinu Tam (Tosfos Brachos (11b)) is of the opinion that each new day necessitates its own Birkat HaTorah, whether one slept during the night or not. The Rosh in Teshuvos (4:1) rules that if one stays awake the entire night, he does not recite a new set of Birkat HaTorah. The Shulchan Aruch O.C. (47:11-12) cites a dispute if one sleeps during the day, should he say a new set of Birkat HaTorah; he says common practice is not to. Moreover, if one does stay awake all night, they should not recite Birkat HaTorah in the morning. The Magen Avraham disagrees and rules that one who did not sleep should recite Birkat HaTorah in the morning. We resolve the question by having a Baal Tefillah who slept for more than a half hour during the night. Dont lose sight of the forest by the trees; we are thanking Hashem for entrusting us with His precious Torah on Shavuot. NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS As Shavuot is coming closer, the children are getting excited to receive the Torah. Both classes had a special trip to the Aron Kodesh in the main shul. As we opened up the Aron, the children noticed that the Torah is dressed up with a special cover and a crown on top called the Keter Torah. We saw the yad which we use to read the Torah. The children were very excited to touch the Torah and give it a kiss. In honor of Shavout we all made edible mountains out of chocolate cake and mini cheesecakes. We also had an ice cream party before Shabbat. The Tiny Tots finished decorating and painting their mountains. They also made flowers for Shav-out using water- colored coffee filters with colored sand. The Nursery chil-dren glued brown tissue paper, colorful flowers and a Torah on their own Har Sinai mountains.

We hope you will join us for a fun-filled summer with Morah Etty, Morah Regina, Morah Rebecca, and our terrific counselors, Risa, Michael and Yoni. Call or e-mail the school office to sign up for the full or partial sum-mer. We wish you all a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach!
