Shabbat Vayishlach 16 Kislev, 5776/ Nov. 27-28, 2015
Pachim K’tanim from Rabbi Yudin: In honor of Parshat Vayishlach
When Yaakov and Esav meet after 34 years, the Torah enumerates Yaakov’s family who
bowed down to Esav. His four wives and 11 sons bow to Esav. Interestingly, our Rabbis note
that Binyamin merited having the majority of the Beit Hamikdash built in his territory, as he did
not bow down to Esav (he was not yet born). In addition, Dina is noticeably missing. The
Medrash B.R. (76:9) teaches that Yaakov hid her in a box so Esav should not see her. Clearly,
Yaakov meant well by giving his daughter a “closeted” upbringing. Sometimes it works. It did
not work with Dina. When Yaakov arrives in Eretz Yisrael, Dina sees a big world out there and
falls in with Shechem. One significant lesson to be learned, is to teach your children that there
is a lot of chachmah “out there,” but the Torah and its moral standards, it doesn’t have. Be
proud to be a Jew!

NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS
This week the Nursery School was excited to celebrate Thanksgiving at our annual feast. Each class made a delicious treat and we all feasted on pumpkin bread, cranberry relish, corn pops and apple cider. We played games, sang songs and used puppets to tell the Thanksgiving sto-ry. The children all danced to the "Turkey Hop" and listened to fun books about Thanksgiving. The children came dressed in the Native American head bands and necklaces that they made in school. The teachers came dressed as Pilgrims and Native Americans to help bring the Thanksgiving story to life. We also had a great sports day with Morah Stephanie, our new gym teacher. We did relay races and learned how to be good team players. The children loved the balls and hula hoop activities. We talked about the parsha and how the brothers Eisav and Yaakov met after a very long time. Shabbat Shalom!
