Rob Olson came into the kitchen like a Anaheim chili pepper and hasn’t stopped bringing a ball of energy to the café since. Rob started as the Head Chef about a month ago but his love to cook began was he was a small child. “My mother was a great cook,” he said adding that he spent a great deal of time with her in the kitchen. He had many great cooking teachers throughout his life and has even attended culinary school. He loves the joy that food brings to peo-ple. He said he is looking forward to working with the children, gardening and baking cookies. Welcome Rob!
Donation from Narrate We are so fortunate to have support from organizations like Narrate, who helped pay for patient gifts at Christmas for the second year in a row.
THANK YOU NARRATE!
Christmas at Shodair was full of fun, laugh-ter, and giving hearts. In the photo on the left, Alana Listoe, Community Relations
Director, stands with Curt Gross, a Helena man who year after year brings in hoodies
for our older patients. In the middle photo, it looks like folks in Human Resources had a blast during the Holiday Stroll. What can
we say about the photo on the right? It’s teacher Amy Allen and Ellen Livers, our
Government Relations Director and togeth-er they took a moment to smile for the
camera.

Sanctuary at Shodair Over the next 12 months, the Core Team will be walking all employees through Sanctuary themes of the month. Each month will have a differ-ent theme based on Sanctuary ideas. Every month will have a flyer, an employee activity, a patient activity, and a wrap-up that relates to the specific theme for the month. These activities and education are meant to embed Sanctuary into the culture of Shodair. We are excited to begin this journey with you all. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Core Team.
January kicks off with Promoting Safety; February is Pro-moting Emotion Management; March is Paying Attention to Loss; April is Promoting an Empowered Future and May Pro-moting Nonviolence.
January’s Theme: Safety Do you know what it looks like to promote safety?
In the next column are some examples of behaviors
that promote safety on a day to day basis.
Foundation
Donation earmarked for suicide prevention
An update on the fundraising efforts of Capital Sports and Western Store and their CEO Ed Beall that was mentioned in our December newsletter. They designated Shodair Children’s Hospital as one of 5 local charities to support with a percentage of their sales for several days in December, and just before Christmas Ed presented Shodair with a check for $519.09 to go towards Suicide Prevention efforts. This is truly generous, so again, if you are out and about and find yourself in the area of Capital Sports and Western, stop in and let them know
how much we appreciate their support.
Thank You! The Helena Community was very generous this recent holiday season and provided an inspiring array of dona-tions – everything from Christmas stocking stuffers to event tickets to cash donations. We are fortunate to be part of such a supportive, caring, and generous commu-nity. Part of those generous givers are all of YOU! Shodair employees participated in the Employee Giving Campaign in 2017 to the tune of $10,626! Those bi-weekly donations help cover the cost of care for families who can’t afford to pay and give patients opportunities for special outings and unique projects, as well as experi-ences brought into the hospital such as performances, special guests, and experiential learning opportunities. Giving feels good and benefits everyone, so if you’d like to join in this momentous movement, stop in the HR office and ask to enroll. Every penny counts!
Mark your calendar for Pancake Day on Feb. 27
Don’t forget our CMN partner IHOP will be having their annual Pancake Day on Tuesday February 27th. Everyone who
makes a donation for Shodair receives a free short stack of pancakes. YUM! And every cent donated goes directly to
Shodair, so gather your family and friends and head to IHOP for breakfast, lunch or dinner on the 27th!
Our 2018 Shodair calendars and latest edition
of the magazine are here. If you would like
one for yourself or a friend please feel free to
stop on down at the Foundation Office and
pick up your copy.
