10Johnny Got His Gun is an anti-war novel written in 1938 by American novelist and screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and published September 1939 by J. B. Lippincott. The novel won one of the early National Book Awards: the Most Original Book of 1939. Joe Bonham, a young American soldier serving in World War I, awakens in a hospital bed after being caught in the blast of an exploding artillery shell. He gradually realizes that he has lost his arms, legs, and all of his face (including his eyes, ears, teeth, and tongue), but that his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body. As Joe drifts between reality and fantasy, he remembers his old life with his family and girlfriend, and reflects upon the myths and realities of war.It was turned into a movie by the same name and though a minor success at the time of its release, it was largely forgotten soon after by mass audiences. While it is well known that Jimmy Carter required all his new State cabinet members to view the film shortly after his election as Georgia governor in 1971, it gained attention after footage from the movie was used somewhere else. 12The Kreutzer Sonata is a novella by X, named after Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata. The novella was published in 1889, and was promptly censored by authorities. The work is an argument for the ideal of sexual abstinence and an in-depth first-person description of jealous rage. The main character relates the events leading up to his killing his wife; in his analysis, the root cause for the deed were the "animal excesses" and "swinish connection" governing the relation between the sexes. In 1890, the United States Post Office Department prohibited the mailing of newspapers containing serialized installments of The Kreutzer Sonata. This was confirmed by the U.S. Attorney General in the same year. Theodore Roosevelt called X a "sexual moral pervert. The novella was adapted in various stage and film productions, contributing to Beethoven's composition becoming known to the general public. X?

16Seventy years to the day after his father was killed in a desperate battle with German troops in Italy, X unveiled a memorial in which he paid moving tribute to the man he never knew.X, 70, said that at the outbreak of the Second World War his father had declared himself a conscientious objector, but as the evils of Nazism became more and more apparent he decided that he should join up. "So he went back to the conscription board in London and told them he had changed his mind. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers, which is how he ended up here 70 years ago. He believed he was involved in a necessary fight against the Nazis, and for that he paid the ultimate price."X said he found the unveiling of the memorial "extremely moving" and at one point had to staunch a nose bleed with tissues. "I feel an enormous attachment to my father today. I'm very happy to be here," he said, placing his hand over his heart. (Image follows)

21The Motley theatre group was started by A, B, C and D, back in 1979. A common love for theatre and a willingness to do great work drove them to start the group. A was convinced of Samuel Becketts famous play Waiting for Godot. He ended up convincing fellow Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) graduate B about making it their first production. The group relied on the great Satyadev Dubey. Under his direction, Motley did some remarkable plays such as Dear Liar and Antigone. Dubeys style was more dramatic than real when compared to contemporary productions he mostly concentrated on words and ideas. Once established, the group worked on many more productions like Ionescos The Lesson, Albees, Zoo Story, Pinters, and The Dumbwaiter. B has always quoted Antigone, the Greek tragedy by Sophocles, as the toughest play ever attempted by the group. It is one of the most famous and influential theatre groups in India.
