The family wishes to acknowledge with great appreciation all of the telephone calls, personal visits, and warm words of

comfort during our time of bereavement.May “The God of peace be with you all”. (Romans 15:33)

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He

restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no

evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil;

my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the

LORD for ever.

A Celebration of the Legacy OfShirley Viola Ivy

Order of Service

Shirley Viola Ivy, was born on April 19, 1946 to the late Dave and Bessie Emma Susie Ivy, in Rutherford County, Murfreesboro, TN. She was the tenth oldest of sixteen children, her brothers: Joseph Frank, Dave, Fred, Bud, Charles, Calvin, John Henry, and Mac, and sister, Gladys all preceded her in death.

Shirley accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the age of thirteen while a member of Emery Baptist Church.

Shirley moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1963, where she began to empower friends for the rest of her life. She graduated from PTC Career Institute of Cleveland (she received several honor awards at the top of her class and graduated with a 3.5 grade average) and received an Assistant Nursing degree, which eventually led her to her employment with Rudwick Nursing Facility.

Shirley had a very unique personality. She was known by many for her aesthetic talents, she was a visual artist, pianist, singer, and avid florist. She spoke candidly, strongly, assertively, yet she was also known for loving and doting words of advice. She had a free-spirit, the type of person who would make a stranger feel as if they were family. She was charitable to everyone, not just friends and family, but anyone whom she felt was misfortunate; truly an altruistic and benevolent soul.

Shirley was a God-fearing woman, who abided by the law of the Bible. She truly believed that her purpose on Earth was to be a messenger for God. Shirley was also a mother of six children, most importantly a protector of her children- even in their adult lives. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the lessons of the Bible. She constantly reminded them of the importance of faith and belief in God’s power.

Shirley’s free-spirit will be cherished and remembered forever in the hearts of her friends, and her family.

She was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Allen Ivy. Shirley departed this life to walk with the Lord on Tuesday, November 6th, 2012. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories with her brother, Bobby (Alice) Ivy. She leaves her sisters: Nanny (Robert) Sneed, Cornell (James) Bingham, Peggy (Fred) Kaiser, and Rosie (Tommy) Bond. Her devoted children are: sons Roland (Bashira) Ivy, Ronald Ivy, Russell (Marleena) Ivy, Riccardo Ivy, and her daughter, Rhonda Ivy. Her grandchildren: Ra’shaun, Ra’shawne, Ra’quan, Reagan, Shannon, Krystal, Roland Jr, Reanna, Riccardo Jr., Sha’ron, Raphael, Rochelle, Ra’von, and Ra’nyah. Her great-grandchildren: Cherrish, Camario, and Londyn. She was also blessed with a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
