OURT OUR LADY OF ST. HYACINTH NO. 2361 CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS DEER PARK, TEXAS 77536 APRIL 2020 VOLUME XIV NO. 9 Next Meeting – THERE WILL BE NO APRIL MEETING! Dear CDA Sisters: I am writing my message to you on Easter Monday. In the Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches this day is called "Bright Monday" or "Renewal Monday". Can you imagine on this day after the original Easter Sunday, how bright this Monday must have been? How the world must have felt renewed? The King unlike any other King had risen! During this time of quarantine, I have found comfort in watching St. Hyacinth’s mass on You Tube. The link can be found on the church website, Facebook and You Tube if you haven’t found it already. Father Reginald, Deacon Charles, Pamella Pitman, Joe Maire and others have been doing a great job keeping us connected. If you haven’t signed up for FaithDirect, this would be a great way to continue tithing while socially distant. Thank you to Brenda Demetriou, Gloria Alvarado, Sayda Soto, Isabel Soto and Ada Fallon for serving as our Nominating Committee for our 2020-2022 Court Officers. Gina has posted their Slate of Nominees further down in the newsletter. If you would like to nominate someone ‘from the floor’ for any position, please contact Brenda Demetriou (Nominating Committee chair) by text or by email by April 30, 2020 . Thank you to those nominees answering the call and willing to serve the next two-year term. At this time, we do not know yet if we will be able to meet in May. If we cannot, Isabel and Sayda are working on completing a way for us to vote electronically. Our April meeting is canceled so far, and April financial review has been postponed (no date yet; the hope is June). I have reached out to our District Deputy to see if unmet meetings will need to be made up. I will keep you posted as I hear about our Court and Church events that we are normally involved with. This coronavirus looks like it wears a crown (if you’ve seen the depiction on TV) but it is up against the King of all Kings and will eventually be done with. It certainly looks like He is watching over Deer Park, TX! As of April 11th, the City of Deer Park Emergency Management website listed 12 cases there so far. Let’s keep each other and our nation in prayer as we soldier through this uncertain time. Blessings! Denise Michalak, Regent

NATIONAL COURT NEWS (www.catholicdaughters.org)

Catholic Daughters of the Americas®Bulletin

I hope all of you are well. As I write to you, life in our beautiful country is being disrupted by a virus, and everything is in a state of flux. News out of our local, state, and federal government changesconstantly, and every day we are told something new. On that front, I have nothing new to add. Trust inthe Lord and do what authorities tell you to do.On the CDA front, however, I do have some things to share. As most of you know, the deadline for financial reviews has been extended until June 1, 2020. Ifwe should need to revisit that date, we will. I am asking that you continue to conduct businessremotely if possible. Our office is currently closed. It will open on Monday, March 30, with a skeleton crew.Meanwhile, our office manager can answer emails, so contact her with your needs. As of now, our convention is still a go. In fact, we are moving full speed ahead. Conventionpackets went out earlier this week, and everyone should receive it soon. If you do not, pleasecontact the office, and we will send or email it to you. Please send in your registration and meal forms as required. If we should need to refund money,we will, but I do not foresee that happening. Here is the biggie: Please do not cancel your hotel reservations because of the virus. Wehave a contract, and if we drop significantly in hotel attendance, we will lose thousands of dollarsin fees and deposits. We simply cannot afford that. We will only cancel the convention if we caninvoke the Force Majeure clause—which means a human-initiated action that cannot be predictedand/or, in some cases, an act of God. If the government tells us we can still not travel or fly inJuly, then we will cancel, and we will not owe any fees. Hotel reservations can be cancelledwithout fee within 48 hours of arrival. We will let you know in plenty of time to do that. So,please sit tight. We still have a few rooms available, and I believe we are going to be in Dallas inJuly. So, continue to make those reservations! The Executive Board is developing plans for ending the term should we have to cancel theconvention. Please keep us in your prayers as this is a daunting task, and we are in unchartedterritory. Rest assured that we will to our best to enact emergency procedures that best meet theneeds of our membership and our organization. All of the procedures will be new, and change ishard, but this is a once in a lifetime event. We can do it!Regardless of what is happening around us, we are still women of service. If we can make donations, sewfrom home, or undertake some other avenue of service, we should do so. We can all do one thing: wecan pray! Our sisterhood is a powerhouse of intercessory prayer. Pray for our country, our organization, and for those most in need. God hears and answers our prayers!Sincerely in Christ,Olga Samaniego, National Regent

the responses from our members. This is the current slate of nominees:

Regent: Denise MichalakVice Regent: Gina Howell

Recording Secretary: Michelle DraperFinancial Secretary: Kathy Zuckero

Treasurer: Mary Jo Howell

We currently do not know if we will be able to meet in May, but if not, voting will be done electronically. Before that time, we

58th Biennial National CDA Convention, Dallas, TX, July 15-19, 2020

As noted above from the National Court, CDA is currently still planning on the National Convention in July. Since it will be in Dallas, they are looking for anyone interested in volunteering. The convention is a huge undertaking and requires a lot of hands. If you feel that is an area you would be interested in, please let Denise or one of the officers know and we can pass that on.

Our Parish Ministry has been very busy making masks! They recently completed an order for 100 masks for the nurses at Methodist Hospital. Special thanks to all of those ladies!

Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.”

At your command, the sick were made well.Come to our aid now, in the midst of the

global spread of the coronavirus, that we mayexperience your healing love.

Heal those who are sick with the virus.May they regain their strength and health through

quality medical care.

Heal us from our fear, which prevents nationsfrom working together and neighbors from

helping one another.

Heal us from our pride, which can make us claiminvulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.

Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our sidein this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

Be with those who have died from the virus.May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace.

Be with the families of those who are sick orhave died. As they worry and grieve, defend them

from illness and despair. May they know your peace.

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers andall medical professionals who seek to heal

and help those affected and who put themselvesat risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.

Be with the leaders of all nations. Give themthe foresight to act with charity and true concern

for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve.Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutionsthat will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks.

May they know your peace, as they work togetherto achieve it on earth.

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many peoplesuffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ,

stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.

Jesus Christ, heal us. Amen.
