It commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Traditionally, 31 October 1517 is widely held to be the day German monk Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses on the door of the All Saints' Church in Wittenberg. He staked his soul on two revolutionary ideas: sola fide, that justification is dependent on faith alone; and sola scriptura, that Scripture is the only ultimate authority for Christian belief and practice. The Reformation was, first and foremost, all about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was then, and it still is now. The task of reformation never ends, for every person, in every generation, needs to hear the good news of their Saviour from sin and eternal death. Just as we must thank God for giving us Jesus to save us from our sins, we must also thank God for the Reformation that has resulted in the availability of the Gospel message today. The true hero is really not Luther (nor men like Tyndale, Zwingli, Calvin and Knox who came before or after him), for they were all imperfect men God mercifully chose to use. God alone is to be praised. Reformation 500 is to be a time of thanksgiving to God. At the heart of the Protestant Reformation were five declarations, often referred to as the "solas": sola scriptura, solus Christus, sola gratia, sola fide, and soli Deo gloria. These five statements distinguish Protestantism. Protestants place ultimate and final authority in the Scriptures (sola scriptura), acknowledge the work of Christ alone as sufficient for redemption (solus Christus), recognize that salvation is by grace alone (sola gratia) and faith alone (sola fide), and seek to do all things for God’s glory (soli Deo gloria). Let us as a church be reminded to continue to hold tight to these principles by His grace. Blessings, Pastor Jason Lim

REFORMATION 500

This week is an important one for the Church of Jesus Christ. CLASSES AND TRAINING

• CHRISTIAN EDUCATION WORKSHOP – GOD AND SCIENCE People have said that Science has shown that the Bible is not true. Alternatively, people have said Faith and Science are entirely 2 different subjects altogether. However, what people have failed to see is the Bible in fact is a very remarkable book. Where the Bible has touched on Science, it has revealed information well ahead of scientific knowledge and discoveries, thereby revealing the Bible is the revelation of God who is the Creator of this universe. No registration is required for this workshop.
