Shiloh Community Garden Project April 9-13, 2013
The Shiloh Community Association, in partnership with The YMCA of WNC and Asheville Area Habitat
for Humanity, has been awarded a grant from the Buncombe County Parks and Recreation Department
for enhancements to the Shiloh Community Garden. Grant money will be used to construct an additional
new permanent garden shed, to build three new raised beds with cold frames for winter growing, build 2
garden signs and to move the water spigot closer to the areas of the garden used for growing.
Scope of Work and Logistical Information
Supervisor: Joel Johnson (828) 777-4158
Volunteer Tasks: Build a new 12’ x 12’ garden shed; install gutters and rain barrels on sheds; build new
raised beds and cold frames; build two sign frames and install.
Please note: inclement weather or other circumstances out of our control may alter the work schedule.
When: 8:30 am-3:30 pm (with two 15-minute breaks and half-hour lunch)
Where: Meet on-site at corner of Hampton St. and Century Blvd in the Shiloh Community, 28803
What to wear: Please dress accordingly to the weather, and wear layered, work appropriate clothing.
Wear closed toe shoes. We have all the protective wear and gloves you will need.
What to bring: Snacks, lunch, and beverages. We have all the equipment you’ll need.
The Shiloh Community
Garden is on land donated to
the community association
and has a long history of
partnering with groups in our
community (UNCA, AB
Tech, Warren Wilson
College). A garden
committee meets on a regular
basis and conducts programs
in the garden and regularly
hosts volunteer groups.
100% of the food grown in the
Shiloh Community Garden is
made available, at no charge,
to Shiloh residents.
