So far 33 Pre-primary schools, 9Primaryschoolsand5Middleschoolshavebeen transferred in the �irst and second
phase of transfer. Prior to execution of the�inalphaseofschooltransfer,theCTSAinits82nd Governing Body meeting held on17.02.2017,madearesolutiontoreviewtheprogress of the CTSA schools so fartransferredtoSTSS.
13thAnnualSchoolHeadsMeetingofSTSSOn the auspicious 15th day of Saka Dawa,Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS)organised its day-long 13th Annual SchoolHeadsMeetingatSherabGatselLoblingon9June2017.ThemeetingwasinauguratedbyHonourable Education Kalon, Mr NgodupTsering.HewasaccompaniedbyMrTenzinDorjee, Head of Traditional and ModernAcademicSection,DepartmentofEducation,CTA.
Honourable Kalon inaugurated themeeting by lighting of butter lamp andofferingscarftotheportraitofH.H.theDalaiLama. The Director of STSS, Mr NamgyalYemphel, welcomed the school heads andhighlightedtheobjectivesofthemeeting.Theintroductory speech was followed by thespeech ofHonourable EducationKalon,MrNgodupTsering.

TalkonsecularethicsbyHisHolinesstheDalaiLamaOn 8th June 2017, The Department of EducationorganizedaspecialtalkonsecularethicsbyHisHolinessthe Dalai Lama for over 303 school teachers andadministratorsfromTibetanschoolfromacrossIndiaandNepal.A total of 303 members from 12 TCV Schools, 25Sambhota schools, 3MussoorieFoundation, 14 schoolsunderCTSA,8NepalTibetanschools,SarahCollege,DalaiLama Institute inBangalore and24dealing staffof theDepartmentofEducationandprojectsponsorsreceivedanaudiencewiththeTibetanspiritualleader.The chief guest Dr. Lobsang Sangay, President, CentralTibetanAdministration,alongwithMrNgodupTsering,Education Kalon, Ms Nangsa Choedon and Mr KarmaSingey, Secretaries of DoE presided over the closingfunction which was attended by 303 participants.Education Kalon emphasized on the importance ofmakingeffortsfromeachandeveryonetherebypaying
gratitude to His Holiness and shouldering universalresponsibility. This initiative was funded by PhariChewangNgokhangfromsouthernCalifornia,USA.
AcademicsectionModernSectionWorkshoponBasicEducationPolicyDOEorganizedthreedays'workshopfrom24thto26thMay,2017onBasicEducationPolicyatLhakpaTseringhall to school administrators, education of�icers andteachersfromvariousTibetanschoolsincludingTibetanChildren’s Village, Mussoorie Homes, Rajpur, andSambhota branch schools, members of the educationcouncilandtextbookeditorialmembers.Theworkshopwas inaugurated by prominent Buddhist scholar andKalon Trisur of the Central Tibetan Administration,Professor Samdong Rinpoche. He enlightened theparticipantsonvisionoftheBasicEducationPolicy.

EarlyGradeReadingWorkshopTheDepartmentofEducation,CTAhasorganizeda �iveday workshop on Early Grade Reading for primaryteachersfrom23rdto27thMay,2017intheNyatriHall,Gangchen Kyishong Dharamsala. Around 23 teachersundervariousadministrationsnamelyTHF, STS,TCV&CSTschoolsattendedtheworkshop.

TheopeningceremonywaschairedbyMrKarmaSingey,SecretaryoftheDoE,CTA.MrTenzinDorjee,SectionHeadof Academic and Modern Section, DoE welcomedeverybody and introduced the backgroundof theEarlyGradeReadingWorkshopforPrimaryTeachers.Dr.LatikaGupta, resource person highlighted the importance ofteachingTibetan in an interestingway so that childrenread books in their mother-tongue with interest andexcitement. Mr Karma Singey emphasized on theimportanceofgivingworkshoptotheprimaryteacherstonurturefreereadinghabitsamongtheearlygradersandexplained the signi�icance EGR as one of the mostessentialprojectsimplementedbyDoE.As part of onsite support process, they visited theSouthern,NorthEast&LadakhTibetanschoolstoprovideguidance and supervise the implementation of variousdimensions of EGR namely establishment of readingcorners,distributionofbooksandsoon.Thisprojectisbeing generously funded by USAID through the TibetFund.
EarlyGradeReadingWorkshopforParentsTwodays'workshoponearlygradereadingforparentswasorganizedinthreeNorthEasternTibetansettlementsnamelyMiao(2nd&3rdJune,17),Tezu(4th&5thJune,17)andTenzinGang(8th&9thJune,17).Atotalnumberof150parentsattendedtheworkshopincludingallthreesettlements.AspartofEGRprogramoneofthekeyareaofinterventionisthecommunitysupportinbuildingstrongreading culture and taking ownership of their childeducation.
ParentsandchildrenfromcommunityparticipatinginanEGRactivity
The workshop focused on building strong parent andcommunitysupportsystemforchildrenreadingcultureandappreciationofTibetanlanguage.TheparentsweremotivatedtoreadtotheirchildespeciallyinTibetan.Theywere also familiarized with various children literaturebooks in Tibetan. This program is funded by US-AIDthroughTheTibetFund.
InclusiveEducationWorkshopTheDepartmentofeducationhasorganizedaworkshoponInclusiveEducationfor19primaryteachersatSakyaGuestHouse,Bylakuppefrom19-24June,2017. Thepurposeof theworkshop is tounderstand
diverse background of children in our schools andimportance of children learning together regardless oftheir background (gender, ability etc.). The workshopvalues diversity and fosters teacher's profession inaddressingthediverselearnerintheirclassroom. Theworkshop contentwas prepared based ontheNeedIdenti�icationSurvey.Theteachershavelearnedthebetterwayofrespondingtothediverselearnerwiththeunderstandingofchildren'sneed,especiallychildrenwhohave learningproblemsandbehaviour challenges.Someoftheconcernproblemfacesbytheteacherswerenoted and everyone has contributed their ideas andpractices on those issues. Respect and understandinggrowswhenchildrenwithdiverseabilitiesplay,learnandsocializetogether.Italsohelpsindevelopingtheinclusivesocietywhen education is impartedmoreon inclusion.Thequalityeducationisonlycompletewhenitmeetstheneedsofeverychild.ThesixdaysworkshopwasconductedbyresourcepersonDr.Bharti,Asst.professor,NCERT,Delhi.FundedbyGlobalAffairs,Canada.

MrsNangsaChodon,Secretary,DepartmentofEducationwastheChiefGuestanddeliveredtheinauguralspeechandspokeontheimportanceofupholdingone’sculturalheritageandcontinuetostudyone’sownothertongueaswellasbearesponsibleTibetanambassadoratCollege.SheurgedthemtofeelthegratitudeofHHtheDalaiLamaandbethankfultoHHtheDalaiLamaandmotivatedthemtocomebackandservethecommunity.Sheconcludedherspeechbywishingthemhealthyandhappylifeandgoodluckintheiracademicendeavour.SimilarOrientationprogramforClassXIIstudentswereconductedbyMrJamyangWangyalatsouthernTibetanSettlementsfromApril22toApril29,2017.Department of Education has so far organized 11OrientationprogramforClassXIIgraduatesandthisisthe12th Orientation Program. This program is funded bySOIR-IM(SwedishOrganizationforIndividualRelief).
Playon ImportanceofTibetanTraditionalArtsandVocationalStudiesTheDOEhasorganizedaPlayonImportanceofvocationstudiesat11schoolstostrengthentheunderstandingandimportanceofvocationalstudiesandTibetantraditionalarts among teacher and student. The objectives of thesessionweretoimparttheinformationondiverseTibetanarts, to enhance traditional crafts, understanding thescopes of vocational studies and to develop a nuanceunderstandingandvalueeveryprofessionalcareers.ThisinitiativeisbeingfundedbySOIR-IM.
LeadershipWorkshopforSchoolPrefectsThe 5th Leadership Workshop for School Prefects ofTibetan schools was held at Tibetan Reception Centre,Dharamsala. The six - dayworkshop commenced fromApril 10 to 15, 2017 was inaugurated by EducationMinisterMr.NgodupTsering. The workshop focused on identifying anddeveloping leadership skills & leadership styles. Theworkshop provided participants the opportunities for
individual assessment of leadership skills, as well asgroupwork to discuss issues such as building a viableteam.Theworkshopbuildstudentsskillsonhowtogetorganized with time allotted. In the course of theworkshop, the participants also explored methods ofsuccessful goal setting for personal and organizationalgoals.Theyalsoexploredsomeofthebasicsinvolvedinleadershipcommunicationandlearnedwaystoenhanceinterpersonalskills,developlisteningstrategies. 35 school prefects and 17 teachers from 18TibetanSeniorSecondarySchools fromCentralTibetanSchoolAdministration(CTSA),TibetanChildren'sVillage(TCV), Snow Lion Foundation (SLF), Nepal, TibetanHomes Foundation (THF) & Sambhota Tibetan SchoolSociety (STSS) attended the leadership program. ThisworkshopisfundedbySOIR-IM.
LeadershipWorkshopforTibetanYouthsLeadershipworkshopforyouthswasheldatMITSOGintwophases.The�irstphasewasattendedby52studentsfromMay29toJune3,2017.ThestudentsreportedonMay28,2017atMadhavInternationalHotel,Punewhilethe second batch consist of 68 students attended theworkshopfromJune4-10,2017andreportedatthesamehotelonJune3,2017.
ScholarshipSectionFour students selected for 2017 United World CollegeScholarship holder with their parent/guardian visitedDharamsalatosignUWCDeclarationform,andmetwithMr. Karma Singey, Secretary of the Department ofEducation, CTA. Mr. Karma advised them that thescholarshipisveryprestigiousandallmustutilizetothebestinterestofoneselfandforthecommunityasawhole.HealsopraisedthemtobearolemodelforotherTibetanstudentswhowillcontinuetoapplyforthisscholarship.The Department of Education is thankful for HorizonFoundation and UWC Thailand for sponsoring thestudents.
