In the morning, after sending her son to school, Dilshad’s first job is to chat with her Chinese neighbors, study the Chinese language, or read some English books at the community library. She is a regular participant in the activities organized by the community and subdistrict office for expats. “My neighbors are excellent. They can speak good English and I have grasped the Chi- nese language little by little,” said Dilshad, adding that there weren’t any obstacles to her living in Shenzhen thanks to her neighbors’ tips on buying food, commuting and shopping. Dilshad has picked up spoken Chinese quickly thanks to her son Khaja Mohiuddin, who often teaches her after coming back from school, as well as the Chinese friends she made at the English corner that the Bantian Service Station regularly orga- nizes for expats. Dilshad often attends the English corner and celebrations of Western festivals, dressing in traditional Indian attire and explaining Indian traditions such as how to apply beautiful Henna patterns to their hands. Dilshad even prepared a locker containing saree, headgear and other ornaments for neighbors to try on during the English corner activities. “Mohiuddin is 4 years old and has made a lot of friends, and we are happy to work, study and live in Shenzhen,” she said. The happiest time for the family is dinner when they share stories of work, school and the community. Dilshad came to Shenzhen in 2015 with her husband who works for a Shenzhen technology company. “I was attracted by the blue sky Han Ximin [email protected] STUDENTS taking the gaokao, also known as the National Col- lege Entrance Examinations, can call the police hotline at 8333-3333 if emergencies arise during the examination period from June 7 to 9, police said in a news release over the weekend. Police have taken criminal compulsory measures on nine suspects for infringing on citizens’ personal information and 28 suspects for committing fraud during the operation. Currently, 26 of them are being held under criminal detention and 11 have been released on bail pending trial. Another 32 people are being held under administrative detention. After searching the 30 loca- tions where the suspects were staying, the police ferreted out over 1 million pieces of residents’ personal information. One of the locations was an information consulting company in Meilin, where police seized 420,000 pieces of residents’ per- sonal information that had been acquired from illegal sources. Each of the company’s employees would make 300 to 400 crank calls each day using the information. Another company in Longgang District bought personal informa- tion of 170,000 stock investors online and reached out to these people for fraud. The company’s employees defrauded their vic- tims by persuading them to invest in gold on a fake investment plat- form, according to the report. Wang Zhengtu, a crime inves- tigation police officer with the city’s public security bureau, said that some people had acquired residents’ personal information by using computer viruses or hacker attacks, while some information was leaked by insiders at compa- nies or institutions. Additionally, netizens tend to leave a lot of personal information online and some people obtain that informa- tion by using big-data analysis. People who sell or provide citizens’ personal information to others will face a jail term of up to three years, while severe violators will be sentenced to prison for up to seven years.
