COURSES Stage 1A1B; 1C1D and VET Certificate Courses

Pathways include TAFE, Apprenticeship, Traineeship

Practical emphasis together with theory in school. Some courses include National VET competencies.

VET stand alone courses e.g. Cert II Tourism - students can achieve National VET Qualifications, which will make them very competitive for TAFE entry.

Some students may have a course which requires them to be out of school one day per week e.g. TAFE or Workplace Learning

Vocational Education and Training

Demand for young people with well-developed vocational skills remains strong.

Students can begin training at school and those who successfully complete all of the requirements will gain a nationally recognised certificate qualification e.g. Certificate II Business.

Workplace Learning – demonstrating competencies in a real or simulated work environment.

Vocational Education and Training

Provides credit towards the achievement of WACE.

Students can take part in the School Pre-Apprenticeship Program and school-based traineeships which can reduce a post school apprenticeship by 3 months.

These VET qualifications together with students course grades will support students to have the competitive edge when seeking TAFE entry and or employment in various Industries.

General pathways advice

Typically …

University bound students study Stage 2 and Stage 3

Course units over Years 11 & 12. In Year 12 (final year),

all or most of the units are studied at Stage 3.

Students who are planning on going into TAFE, Training

or directly into the workforce, study:

- a mixture of VET Certificates; and Stage 1 and Stage 2

units (mainly stage 1); OR

- all Stage 1 units in Years 11 & 12.

Will I get what I want?

Most students get their six courses. If not, then two courses occur at the same

time or the course has been cancelled. Pre-requisites will be enforced. Have a 7th choice in mind. Re-selection occurs mid Term three.
