Rules & Regulations
1. The Shelby County Classic and The Shelby County Fair Horse Show are members of the Kentucky
Association of Fairs and Horse Shows, Star Rated from the American Saddlebred Horse Association and
recognized by the South Central Hackney Association. The Shelby County Classic and the Shelby County
Fair Horse Show both serve as qualifying shows for the Kentucky County Fair division at the World’s
Championship Horse Show as well as qualifying shows for the Park and Pleasure Divisions at the World’s
Championship Horse Show.
2. The is no qualifying required for any of the Stake/Championship classes at the Shelby County Fair Horse
Show.
3. Entries close June 8, 2020. Post entries will be accepted at a rate of $10.00 per class until 6:00pm each
evening. All horses and riders must be properly entered on the correct entry blanks. You may enter online
www.horseshowsonline.com. Academy entries are due by Friday June 26 at 7:00pm. This will allow time
to split any classes and assure an on time start and smooth transition into the Academy Session.
4. All horses must have a negative Coggins test issued within the past 12 months as required by the Kentucky
State Veterinarian. All horses must have a Health Certificate issued by a Veterinarian within the past 120
days with a temperature on each animal. In addition documentation of the Equine Influenza Virus and the
Equine Herpes Virus vaccinations within 6 months prior to the show.
5. Exhibitors are notified that any act of discourtesy by them, their riders, drivers, caretakers or agents shall
disqualify their entry and they shall forfeit all fees. The horse show committee reserves the right to rule in
such cases.
6. The Horse Show Committee reserves the right to interpret the rules and to rule on any questions that may
arise without damages or recourse of any kind.
7. The gate to the show ring will close 2 minutes after the first horse enters the ring. Any exhibitor not in the
ring at that time will not be admitted.
8. Gate Admission—Everyone attending the show will be charged admission at the gate. We will provide
admission tickets to everyone that is pre entered. All sponsors will also receive admission tickets.
Trainers—if you do not pre enter your horses please contact Peter Fenton (859 321 9281;
[email protected]) - we will do our best to provide you with tickets.
9. Parking—All horse trailers and vans will enter through the lower gate off of Route 60. Passenger cars and
trucks may use this gate also but you will be directed to the right for the best parking options. No cars or
pick up trucks will be allowed to park along the back row or adjacent to the Palmer Bradshaw Barn. That
area is reserved for trucks with trailers and horse vans. Please be respectful to the Shelby County Fair
Directors that are donating their time to make our show safe for everyone.

Kentucky State Rider Academy Rules
(Updated November 2019)
Attire of Rider
Jodhpurs, vest, tie and long sleeved shirt, with riding boots and gloves. Hair should be neatly held back so that
the back number is visible. Riding suits and hats are prohibited. Protective headgear is required for all riders
ages 17 and under.
Equipment for the horses:
Snaffle bridles, double or full bridles with running martingales and German martingales are all permissible,
along with appropriate saddle for the division being judged. Any type of leverage bit with a curb chain or strap
is not allowed with rein through martingale or a draw rein attached to said bit. Any protective equipment (shin
boots, knee boots, rundowns, saddle pads, etc.) will be permitted. Blunt spurs are optional at the discretion of
the instructor. No braiding of the horse, hoof blacking is optional. Training devices such as chains, straps,
stretchers or blinkers are NOT allowed in the warm up ring or the show ring.
Judging Criteria
There should be two main divisions:
Equitation—to be judged on basic seat, hands and form, along with effective control of the horse.
Pleasure—to be judged on showmanship, ring generalship and presentation of the horse to its best ability.
Rider Eligibility
A rider is no longer eligible for the academy division if he/she has shown, dressed in a riding suit in a regular
horse show class; with the exception of competing in a 4-H Horse Show. This applies to riders that compete in
a suit in the walk and trot division - they cannot compete in the walk/trot/canter academy division. Exception
to this will be for riders to show in the show rider academy classes.
Horse Eligibility
A horse that is used in an academy program competition can be farm or privately owned and must earn its
living in a lesson program. It cannot be maintained in training within the current show season.
Cross Entering
Academy horses (with different riders) are permitted to cross enter in regular classes of a show as long as they
meet the academy criteria.

Entry Fees $25.00 per class
Office Fee $15.00 per rider
For the benefit of the academy riders and instructors Academy entries will close at 7:00pm on Friday June 26, 2020. This will allow
time to split any classes and assure an on time start and smooth transition into the Academy Session.

Management reserves the right to combine and split classes as necessary
It is strongly recommended that class splits be run back to back to aid in having less tack & rider changes
It is strongly encouraged to not split the show rider classes unless more than 20 entries are present
