We grow together through hymns of praise, sacred words, and proclamations of Gods faithfulness, power, and love for all the world. WORDS OF WELCOME

EASTER INTRODUCTION “The Hope of Easter Remains”

WELCOME to Easter Worship! This is the day the Lord has made! Christ is risen, and through him all creation is made new! Indeed, “God shows no partiality” (Acts 10:34): Christ’s resurrection truly gathers us together and brings life to everyone. We grow together through hymns of praise, sacred words, and proclamations of God’s faithfulness, power, and love for all the world. With the women at the tomb, we are astonished, elated, and grateful for at that God continues to give to us. In response, we give abundantly to God’s mission and ministry for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in our community and across the church. We go from this time of worship with joy to proclaim the good news of God’s endless love.

Thank you for spending this time in worship!

CALL TO WORSHIP – “A Story that Changes the World”

We are not eye-witnesses to an event, as were Mary and the disciples;

we have not journeyed through a dangerous city to seek answers or consola-tion;

we have not seen angels gathering at the rim of this day,

or wept in the garden this morning because we could not find Him.

But we are here to attest to a story that has not lost its power during twenty centuries of change and conflict.

We are here because those before us

carried this story as if it were pre-cious gold;

cherished it as if it were the key to a hidden wisdom.

Sisters and brothers in Christ, take your places wherever you are today in celebration and in awe. What you are about to hear again, has the capacity to change the world. Your very presence attests to the rising up of life from the tomb of despair, and to the uncontrollable power of God.

It is Easter morning again: we will celebrate.

ENTRANCE HYMN “Jesus Christ is Risen Today!”

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH FOR EASTER MORNING “I Believe in Jesus” I believe I awaken to Jesus Christ the one who walked our earth and whose God-light shone through God’s only son the one whose life came from the very life of God our Lord our guide, our teacher, our friend who was conceived by the Holy Spirit whose life was an intent of God’s creative imagination born of the Virgin Mary who sang love’s song at his beginning and was blessed suffered under Pontius Pilate rejected by the powers of the world was crucified executed by those same powers died sharing the same death of us all and was buried love had been killed he descended to the dead and they thought this the end but on the third day nothing could contain, bind or hold the life Jesus began he rose again and the story continues to be believed of renewal, transformation and life again. PRAYER OF THE DAY Your light is the only light we need. as we travel through life’s mystery. Your word the only voice we hear, that still small voice that leads us to the place where we should be.

Your presence is the only company we need, as we walk this narrow road. Your fellowship the warmth we crave, to help us on our way. May the truth of Easter, The joy of Easter, And the blessings of Easter, Be with us this day and all days. Thanks be to God! Amen.

HYMN OF PRAISE – “Children of the Heavenly Father”

A TIME WITH CHILDREN

Word God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Jeremiah 31:1-6 God’s final word is always “Yes.” Because God’s love is everlasting, God always remains faithful. Ancient Israel is assured that it will be rebuilt and have plentiful crops. The people of God too will ultimately be reunited.

At that time, says the Lord, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. Thus says the Lord: The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall take your tambourines, and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers. Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit. For there shall be a day when sentinels will call in the hill country of Ephraim: “Come, let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.”

Word of God. Word of life. Thanks be to God.

PSALM 118: 1-2, 14-24 (please read responsively)

1Give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good; God’s mercy endures forever.

2Let Israel now declare, “God’s mercy endures forever.”

14The Lord is my strength and my song, and has become my salvation.

15Shouts of rejoicing and salvation echo in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the Lord acts valiantly!

16The right hand of the Lord is exalted! The right hand of the Lord acts valiantly!”

17I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

18The Lord indeed punished me sorely, but did not hand me over to death.

19Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and give thanks to the Lord.

20“This is the gate of the Lord; here the righteous may enter.”

21I give thanks to you, for you have answered me and you have become my salvation.

22The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

23By the Lord has this been done; it is marvelous in our eyes.

24This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Word of God. Word of life. Thanks be to God. NEW TESTAMENT READING Colossians 3:1-4 Easter means new life for us as it first meant new life for Christ. His resurrection reshapes the entire focus and motivation for our lives since we are now hidden with the risen Christ in God.

1If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Word of God. Word of life. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL HYMN “Christ is Risen! Alleluia!”

GOSPEL READING Matthew 28:1-10 Sorrow gives way to “fear and great joy” when two women are sent by an angel to proclaim the good news: Jesus is risen!

1After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” 8So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” The Gospel of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

EASTER MESSAGE – Rev. Bob Caranicas HYMN OF THE DAY “Good Christian Friends, Rejoice and Sing!”

Thanksgiving God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ.

THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.

Alleluia! Christ is risen. Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!

Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism, we are raised with him to new life. We give thanks for the gift of baptism.

Water is poured into the font as the presiding minister gives thanks.

We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning you created us in your image and planted us in a well-watered garden. In the desert you promised pools of water for the parched, and you gave us water from the rock. When we did not know the way, you sent the Good Shepherd to lead us to still waters. At the cross, you watered us from Jesus’ wounded side, and on this day, you shower us again with the water of life. We praise you for your salvation through water, for the water in this font, and for all water everywhere. Bathe us in your forgiveness, grace, and love. Satisfy the thirsty, and give us the life only you can give. To you be given honor and praise, through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Amen.

PRAYERS OF GOD’S PEOPLE

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Sending God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world.

BENEDICTION – “We Go as Hope-Carriers” We thank You, Lord,

for re-igniting the flame of hope within us, for filling our hearts with light and evicting the darkness, and for giving a new vision of Your glory. Amen.

Go now, as light-bearers to a world in darkness, Go now, as hope-carriers to a world in despair;

We go in the name of Christ, in the love of God and in the power of the Spirit. Amen.
