Pastoral Candidate

Pastor Katrina Walther was

raised in the Washington and

Austin County area. She earned

her undergraduate degrees in

English and Biology from

Texas Lutheran University in

Seguin. It was at TLU that she

met Carl Walther—they were

married just two months before

Katrina graduated from

university. Katrina worked as a

teacher at a small private school

for a time after graduation, and

it was there that she began to

discern a call to ministry. Carl

and Katrina relocated to the

Austin area, where Katrina

attended the Lutheran Seminary

Program of the Southwest. She

received her Masters of Divinity

and was ordained in 2010. Her

first call as an ordained minister

was to Our Saviour’s Lutheran

Church of Sunnyside,

Washington. After seven years

in Washington state, Katrina

and Carl and their daughters,

Laura and Heather, are looking

forward to returning to Texas,

and particularly to the Brenham

area.

“I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all

of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the

one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 1:3-6

As I reflect back on these past months of joining in the ministry of Christ with you, the good people of Zion, I

am filled with great gratitude and joy. In these months you have helped me to see what can happen when the

church is open to God’s Holy Spirit. It has been a beautiful sight to see the many ways you have reflected

God’s love in the various ministries that you embrace at Zion.

This is a time of excitement for you at Zion as you embark on a new chapter of your ministry and life in Christ.

In the presence of change and unknowns, there is the potential for fear to creep in, but know this, God is at work

here at Zion and is doing a new thing.

Knowing God’s presence always brings hope and it is this hope that will overcome all fear. It is my prayer that

you will embrace the days ahead knowing that God has been and continues to be at work here at Zion. Trust in

God’s loving presence knowing that the good work that has been started will continue in this new chapter of

ministry.

You have given me first hand experience of the many ways in which God is working here and I am so very

thankful for this opportunity to join you in ministry. You will forever be in my prayers of thanksgiving for the

great joy that you bring to this community.

May you continue to live into the future of your call to be the church with great hope and joy!

In God’s peace and love,

Pastor Jill

All I can say is WOW!! What a busy September 2017 it has been. Starting with Hurricane Harvey; what a destruction he did. Thousands and thousands of homes flooded, people rescued by boats and a lot of prayers going to God – asking for guidance, safety and what now? I know there were several people from Zion that gave a helping hand; whether it was a monetary donation or going to work with your hands. I traveled with Pastor Ken Weiss and Pastor Parnell to Conroe to help muck out a home. There had been 14 feet of water in this home and it belonged to a family whose daughter was fighting several diseases and was on oxygen. It broke our hearts because she lost all of her possessions. Her air tanks, clothes, bed, dresser and pictures were all gone. But she was safe and that is the main thing. My prayers go out to this family. Then we traveled to Katy, Texas with God’s work, Our Hands and teamed up with people from all over. Next we traveled to homes to help move furniture out, packed up to help move or whatever the people needed. It was a heart-warming day to help out our neighbors in need. What a day our youth had on Sunday, September 10th! Gods work… Our Hands Confirmation Team had the pleasure of helping play baseball at the Miracle League in Bellville. What a great day for a game of baseball. Even our own Will Larkin did an outstanding job! Will we are so proud of you! And way to go Confirmation Class; you all Rock! And then it was Washington County Fair week! What a long, long week that has been; so many activities, so many awards and lots and lots of hours of ha-a-a-a-rd work. Hats off to all the volunteers that helped with the fair activities and to our youth who participated in showing an animal, country creations, hay hauling contest, greased pig contest, Ag Olympics, Queen contest, Little Miss & Mr. Contest, the fair parade and much, much more. Here is a list of our youth that participated and if I missed your name let me know so I can add you next month. Sandy Supak Brazos Supak Cooper Hodde Branden Roehling Dawson Draehn

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the

heart”

To the ladies that make desserts and serve meals for Burton Bridge Ministry at UCC Burton; just want to let you know that your volunteer efforts are greatly appreciated here in the church. You have taken time from the “busy-ness” of your own schedule to participate in a ministry opportunity for Zion. Please know that we are very grateful and understand that God Himself sees and rewards those who diligently work for Him with little or no regard for earthly recognition.

Questions: 1. For how many days and nights did it rain in the story of the flood? 2. What was special about Jesus’ mother? 3. Who gave gifts to Jesus when he was a young child? 4. What happened to Jonah after he was thrown overboard? 5. In whose image was man created?

1. Forty (Gen 7:12) 2. She was a virgin (Matt 1:23) 3. Wise men/magi (Matt 2:7-10) 4. He was swallowed by a great fish (Jon 1:17) 5. God’s (Gen 1:27)
