August 2019Friends,
We are coming to the end of summer, which will put us on a fast track through the end of the year! We have had a busy first half of the year with several changes, including the closing of 50 Yard Line where we have had our Lake Ridge Ladies dinner for years. For now, we are catering dinner at Lake Ridge Chapel while we look at other options. Our first dinner was in July, catered by Stella’s, and it was very successful. We heard nothing but positive comments! We are looking forward to seeing you again at Lake Ridge Chapel & Memorial Designers for dinner this month.
We are adding a new monthly event that will be on the first Wednesday of each month: the LR Men & LR Ladies “Supper at Six.” Details are in the bulletin. We have had several requests for a dinner night from the men, so this is a new event that I think will have great response! We are always looking for any opportunity to make friends and be a friend. Please join us to kick it off in LRL’s style!
Also, this is the month that we donate food items to feed seniors that do not receive Meals on Wheels over the weekend. The list of food items is in the bulletin. Please bring your items to the LR Ladies Dinner this month.
I look forward to seeing you all month long!!

FEATURED MEMBER
Helen HunterI was widowed a year and a half when I met Haynes Hunter at a friend’s house. From the moment we first met, I knew he was someone special. We married a year and a half later in August of 2001. Haynes introduced me to his world of Harleys and a love of motorcycles. He worked at the Harley shop and loved to plan trips for us.
Haynes had a recurrence of leukemia a few months after we married. In 2003, he received experimental chemo treatments from MD Anderson and was the only participant that recovered. It was a miracle. We were given the gift of more time together. With his health back, the adventures and trips returned.
Haynes never had children and welcomed my kids and grandkids into his life. We also loved our dogs as if they were our children. We loved simple things like spending time together, listening to music, or just hanging out with friends.
Haynes lost his battle with leukemia in May of 2012, but he fought a good fight. When I look back, I cherish the fun times that we had and the friendships we made along the way. I’m glad we made some memories that will last forever!
