A bit of background

Overweight & metabolic syndrome becoming increasingly

What can we do be done?

First line therapy is lifestyle intervention

Current methods ineffective - problem is increasing

Most lifestyle interventions intensive and highly prescriptive

Unsustainable - most people improve, but only temporarily

Study aim :

Evaluate a non-prescriptive lifestyle program

(diet & physical activity) and determine whether

the health benefits persist

In summary - Shape Up measures up!

Results comparable to other research studies, but low drop-out:

during Shape up for Life intervention (6%)
