In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?Urban dramas usually speculate about the gang violence witch normally ends up in some getting either stabbed or shot. Many urban drama are based on youth and how they end up either down the wrong road or being somewhere at the wrong time.

My opening sequence can be compare with films of the genre of ‘urban drama’ for example kidaulthood.

In my secondary research I analysed the opening sequence of anvahood. I choose this film to analyze because it was an urban comedy which I thought could help me and group understand that we could embed comedy into our film whilst keeping the genre of a urban drama.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product represent social group with the use of mise-en-scene. We used costume as the main way to convey our actors. We stuck to the stereotypical images of the youths of today. Our actors was majority black and of the same age.

Our actors used colloquial language to represent the stereotypical of youths. Language is also a key features to suggest the type of social group we want to convey.

However one of the main male character wore smart casual clothes to indicate that he may be a former gang member.

The male actors wore tracksuit and trainers

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think that media institution like Revolver Entertainment because they distributed films like kidulthood which is the under the same genre as me and my groups film. Also There more recent film ‘shank’ is a youth based action films which relates to the type of target audiences our focuses on.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our media product was targeted at the younger generation. From our target audience research we found that within the younger generation they wasn't interested in the opening sequence we showed them. This may because they felt that they have to try and work out which character played what role.

In our secondary research we found what age group goes to the cinema more; our data showed that the 15-34 categories were the most group who go to cinema. So based on this information we took the feedback from our focus group and knew that our opening sequence had to based on what the younger generation said as from our research they were the most who go cinema.

This graph illustrate the age and type of people who go to cinema and from this we saw that that 15-34 go to the cinema more. This enable us targeted our film to the most recent age who go the cinemas more.

How did you attract/address your audience

Before my editing I looked at different films that targeted to the younger generation; I wanted to see what each film had in common. I noticed that music was a key feature in which kept the audience engaged. So In my editing I ask someone I knew for a couple of tracks he had made too add to my opening sequence. I felt that Music/sounds within any genre of film is important as fits in with the pace of the film and it created an

almost surreal effect on the scene.

Moreover I felt that colour also helped engaged the audiences as colour convey the characters emotions. At the end of my Opening sequence I changed the colour to black and white and put a flashback in to show the mix emotions the characters was feeling also I felt that black and white indicates the darkness, emptiness and sense of feeling alone which I wanted to portrayed after someone being stabbed.

The shot on the right is from my opening sequence and the one on the left is from Kidulthood. These shots convey the views in society today and how films are there to covey what’s happening on our streets today.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression it to the full

product?I felt that from my preliminary task I learnt that time was very crucial, because during my preliminary task I didn’t get to edit as I ran out of time. So from this I made sure that time was to be put in consideration each time we was doing different tasks for our final piece. Also I felt that the preliminary task was important because it gave us a chance to use and practice with the equipment allowing us in our final task to know what to use and how to use it.

I also took from the Preliminary Task that the storyboard is very important as it gives you a set idea of what to do step by step making it easier to film and direct the video.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

My role in the final task was being an actor however due to the preliminary task and somewhat the final cut I was able to learn the basic of the technologies. I learnt that taking a shot of people walking easier to use on the tripod as it gives a cleaner shot. Also using the microphone is not as easy to use, because there were several shot that we got the beam pole in. However when it came to constructing this product we all took had got involved, we all had initial ideas in what we wanted opening sequences to look like.

This is the sound I used in final cut. It allowed me to make parts of the video sounds higher and lower . Also it allowed me to fade the music out.

The ‘Effect Tool’ enable me to make transitions between videos and to make scenes black and white.

Page 14: Shannon Evalution

Final cut was the software I used to edit, it allowed me to add effects to make the transitions more clear and quick. Also I was able to add music from another software and embed it into my film.

Despite not using final cut in my preliminary task I found that final cut was easy to use once you got the hang of it.
