HISTORYThe prior owner purchased this perfectly sited 1 acre parcel in 1973 with a dream in mind, to create a residence made from stone and timber. Enamored by the European architecture of the 1920’s and 30’s, he learned England was the heart of this characteristic style. The search began for the right architect and contractor for the job. The local contractor from Marin County who was hired, specialized in custom built furniture and was known for his high quality craftsmanship. The owner wanted a home as authentic as it could get and sent the contractor to England for research and photographs. The project took several years to complete, finishing in 1980. This residence was a labor of love for all parties involved. The owner moved a 21’ trailer to the site where he lived for 3-4 years in order to be a part of every aspect of the construction. The concrete was found from Sonoma fields; the old bricks were recycled from the McNears rock quarry in San Rafael; the cobblestone used was from old streets in San Francisco; The owner had a ‘steaming machine’ built for the Oak which also came in handy for the rafters for the curved roof. Wine bottles still inset in the stone exterior from the days of construction (this was not uncommon in the old homes

in England which were built with all types of leftover building materials). When the owner reached a milestone in construction they would open a bottle to celebrate – the bottles which exist today remnants from these earlier days. The windows were custom made, leaded pane with every piece of glass cut and put together by hand on site. Storybook “eyebrow” windows found in the “turret” and kitchen area. The wood detail incredible, truly custom with solid Oak coffered ceilings, a “turret” style dining room with Redwood ceiling. The special crosses carved in the wood from period details in England. The ‘gothic’ style front doors weigh approximately 300lbs and look like a true picture of the old medieval European residences. The flashings and downspouts are copper. A fireplace with three separate flues. The prior owner purchased the property from a landowner who had named it Chauncey Point. He liked the name so much he kept it on the front door where it remains today. (Point Chauncey is a point of reference for maritime navigation in this specific location ) The property was sold in 1985 to a Southern California TV personality. When they learned they could not make certain dock additions they pursued litigation which finalized with the prior owner buying the property back. Shortly thereafter the current owner bought the property and has been there ever since. The current owner has carried on the tradition of quality craftsmanship improvements and regular maintenance.
