Transcript of Shakespeare enquire
Wonder what it was like being around
the newly-wed couple? We sent an
Inquirer staff member to investigate. Here’s the inside scoop from Grumio,
Petruchio’s servant, on what it was like to work in the home with the shrew
and her tamer.
Exclusive Q&A:
Q: Hi Grumio. How are you today?
Grumio: I’m fine, thank you. And
you?
Q: Good as well. Let me ask , what’s it
like working for Petruchio?
Grumio: Uh…as long as he’s not
listening, I might as well be honest. He’s
terrible! He hit me for following
directions! He told me , “And rap me
well, or I’ll knock your knave’s
pate.” (Shakespeare. 1.2. 10).
Q: Did it occur to you that he was
referring to the gate?
Grumio: …Nope.
Q: (chuckling) Moving on. What do you
think of your mistress, Katherine Minola? Is she truly a shrew?
Grumio: Compared to my master,
she’s an angel. Although she has her moments. The first time I saw that
temper flare was after the wedding ceremony. It might have been a result
of my master wanting to leave the
ceremony early. Her screech still rings.
