WHAT IS A MAKERSPACE? COMMUNITY

“Members”

SPACETOOLSMakerspace

“A Makerspace is a learning environment rich with possibilities. As new hardware and software tools for making, digital design, and fabrication are emerging, we’re working together — with teachers and community leaders — to place those tools into the hands of a wider audience. We’re building the infrastructure for more kids and adults to connect to a future in which they can personally change, modify or “hack” the physical world, creating things that were nearly impossible to do on their own just a few years ago. Making is about getting hands-on, using these new technologies and basic tools, to do real and personally meaningful work.”

COMMUNITYThe community is the core of any makerspace organization. Members are a mix of artists, engineers, skilled trades, farmers, teachers, just about anyone who has a passion to build something. Members fund and maintain the space via monthly dues.

Through this collaborative effort the community can learn and do more than a single individual. Lowering the barrier for the path of creation and invention.HTTP://SHAKMAKERSPACE.COM

SPACEThe physical location where the community resides. Spaces range from small garages or library rooms to larger warehouse spaces.

Some spaces offer project areas for longer builds or studio spaces. Many spaces offer 24x7 access. Spaces are typically maintained and governed by the community. The space is a good place to hold classes and engage the community through open nights during the week.HTTP://
