(Shmot 19:6). We can understand this to mean that in our interaction with the world we resemble Cohanim. Just as the Cohanim enabled the rest of the Jewish people to dedicate their lives and possessions to G-d through the rituals of sacrifices, so we are charged with showing the rest of the world how to approach G-d by dedicating our own lives to Him. Just as Cohanim have to keep away from graves, so we show the world that death is not our main focus and that we value life as a divine gift to be used in G-d's service. Day 49 of the Omer Thought for the Week from Rabbi Lister

Just before we received the Torah G-d told us that receiving it would make us into 'a kingdom of Cohanim'.
