As a reminder, SHA begins the NYS Regents exams 1 hour & 15 minutes earlier than the time listed on the NYS
Education Dept. Regents Examination schedule. Morning Regents exams will begin at 8 am and afternoon exams will
begin at 12 noon.
Exam Conflicts
If your daughter has a conflict with her exams, please have her speak with Mrs. Wietig ASAP.
Cafeteria
The Cafeteria will be closed during exams.
OK, WHO’S HUNGRY?
The SHA summer missionaries are holding a pancake breakfast on Sunday, June 4, from 8:00-10:00 am at Applebee's
(5170 Transit Road, Williamsville) to support their endeavors in the Dominican Republic. In July and August two
groups of SHA students will travel to El Factor, Dominican Republic, to lead faith based activities with children and
adults with disabilities. The money raised will help defray the cost of airfare, purchasing, and transport of supplies
needed. Tickets are available for the breakfast and are $7.00, please contact Miss Dandrea or Ms. Egan
to purchase a ticket. At the breakfast there will be a basket raffle featuring many different themed baskets.
Thanks for your support!
FOOD DELIVERIES
This is a friendly reminder that students should not be having food (pizza, subs, etc.) delivered to school. This is noted
on Page 26 of the Student Handbook. Thank you for your cooperation.
NEED WORKING PAPERS?
Many of the girls have been inquiring about working papers. Requirements for an employment certificate are a
physical within the past year, a copy of your birth certificate or state issued photo I.D., and a completed NYS
employment application, which can be obtained at the nurse's office. All applications must be completed and
turned in by June 15th to the school nurse. After this time, working papers may be obtained through your home
school district.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart is thrilled to announce that our annual Sandstone Dinner Auction will take
place on March 24, 2018! With a Springtime in Paris theme, we are counting on this event setting records for
attendance and SHA support! We are currently building our committee for the event, and we NEED YOU to be part
of building success. Please fill out the "Sandstone 2018 Volunteer Interest form" and return to Susan Reiser Daniels '92
([email protected]) to be a part of Sandstone 2018!
EMERGENCY TUITION ASSISTANCE
What happens when a SHA student and her family is suddenly faced with unforeseen financial challenges? Thanks
to the Emergency Tuition Assistance fund, students do not need to worry about their ability to continue their Sacred
Heart education! Each year, due to death, illness ,or loss of employment, students are supported by this fund. You
can help build the Emergency Tuition Assistance fund by participating in the Sister Maria Pares Golf Tournament on
July 17, 2017! We are welcoming sponsors and foursomes - don't miss the early bird pricing available until June 9!
Details and registration are available here: https://alumni.sacredheartacademy.org/event/100105
CROSS COUNTRY

upcoming season. Each ice time is an hour and half; all ice times will be held at Holiday Twin Rinks.
TRAIN TO COMPETE
Please see Pages 7 and 8 for details on the “Train to Compete” program for high school athletes who would like to
train for sports over the summer through Brissette Sports Performance.
SPORTS NIGHT!
Thank you very much Shannon Yeager for all your help with greetings and organizing a lovely reception after the
Sports Recognition Night. Thank you also to Liz Hofmeister and Jennifer Florczak for helping as well and the SHA
Bakers for providing an assortment of goodies!
BETSY SULLIVAN… THANK YOU!
Betsy’s last daughter is graduating this year, which means Betsy will still be around to help out; she is staying on as a
Parent Guild alumnae parent! Many people may have thought she was employed by SHA, but, she is not. Betsy is
just one of those parents who gives tirelessly and generously through the years. So much love and gratitude from all
of us!
TASTE OF BUFFALO
The Taste of Buffalo is a fund raiser for Parent Guild. This event brings in $1,500.00 every year to help the Parent
Guild budget. Please consider signing up for this event, even if you only have a few hours to give; that is fine. Bring
a friend, a spouse, or a son or daughter that is over 18 years of age to help! We really need assistance with this
weekend long event; it is a fun event to work, I promise! Thank you for your time! Please call Chris or Delores
Carocci for any questions. 877-5652. Sign Up Genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f4aa9a72ea46-taste4
FRESHWOMEN WELCOME PARTIES
Host a Summer Welcome Party for incoming Freshwomen. The Parent Guild coordinates Summer Welcome Parties
for parents and the incoming Freshwomen as an introduction to SHA. Most parties are only two hours long, and your
daughter (current SHA student) would run the info session for the incoming students, while the parents mingle and
ask questions too! You don't need to be an expert - we will provide you with the topics to cover and any FAQs. We
are looking for Class of 2020, 2019, and 2018 families to host these parties! Please see Page 9 for the details.
The sign up Genius Link for hosting a party is: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f4aa9a72ea46-summer.
Attn: Senior Parents
SHA Uniforms
Can you believe that your daughter’s time at SHA is winding down? Time is flying by with all the end of year
activities. Your daughter can "retire" her SHA school uniform. Any parts of the uniform that are in decent shape can
be donated to the school. Every summer Mrs. Rooney hosts a uniform giveaway for the incoming class. It's a nice
way to pay if forward! Uniform donations can be dropped off at the Main Office or Mrs. Rooney’s office in the
Athletic Center. When you dress out of uniform, starting on May 1st, remember to follow the guidelines on Page 27
of the Student Handbook. Please note that shorts are permitted during June exams.
Graduation Photos
Please see Page 10 for details on ordering graduation photos.
Final Transcripts
Final transcripts will be sent to colleges during the last week of June. They will not be available prior to that date.
Please do not worry if you get a notice asking for your final transcript. If you change your mind about where you
want your final transcripts sent, please contact the Counseling Center immediately.
Senior Scholarship Opportunities
NYS Science, Technology, Engineering ,and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program - Provides a full SUNY tuition
scholarship to the top 10 percent of students in each NYS high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associate's
or bachelor's degree program and agree to live in NYS and work in a STEM field in NYS for five years after
graduation. Deadline to apply is August 15, 2017.
Excelsior Scholarship - This program is being phased in over three years, beginning in Fall 2017 for students whose
income is below $100,000, then increasing to $110,000 in Fall 2018, and capping off at $125,000 in Fall 2019. You can
register at www.HESC.ny.gov to be alerted when the application is available.
Attn: Junior Parents
Camp College Prep
With the college application process being so competitive and scholarship dollars so critical, a well written essay
gives our students another opportunity to stand out from other applicants. A well written, thoughtful essay takes time
to plan and write. First semester senior year is a busy time. Why not take some of the pressure off yourself next fall by
writing your college entrance/scholarship essays this summer? Our English Department is offering three (3) - week-
long workshops on college essay writing and the application process. Each workshop will meet 5 days for 2 hours
each day. We will produce 2 college/scholarship essays, look at the timeline for the application process, and have
exposure to the Common App used by many colleges. (Note: Miss Maloney will also work with students in her
British/World Literature Classes in the fall.) This summer session is especially helpful for girls who are applying Early
Action or Early Decision since application deadlines are earlier. This is also very helpful for girls who have a hard time
getting started with the writing process.
Tuition will be $100/student. Space in each session is limited to 14 students. The class is open to SHA girls in the Class
of 2018 only. Sessions are subject to cancellation based upon enrollment. Include the registration slip on Page 11
along with your payment (checks are payable to Sacred Heart Academy); send to the attention of Ms. Maloney,
Mrs. Marciniak, or Mrs. Szalach (depending on the workshop you sign up for). If you have any questions about the
program, please contact Ms. Maloney at [email protected], Mrs. Marciniak at
[email protected] ,or Mrs. Szalach at [email protected]. Please see
the registration form on Page 11 for more details.

Class of 2020, 2019 and 2018 families to host these parties!
Summer is busy ... but please pause and consider hosting a gathering for our incoming Class of 2021! It couldn’t be
easier ... we mail the invitations and provide the expected questions and topics to cover. You provide a summer date (late June or early August), some light refreshments, and a
couple hours of your time to help new SHA families!
If you are willing to host a gathering, please contact Deb Sippel at [email protected] by June 1.
All the information will be provided to make the event a success! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF SHA!
