We are currently looking for enthusiastic residents to join Bro Myrddin’sBoard of Management.The Board of Management comprises up to 12 non-executive members,

three of whom must be residents.Members are drawn from a wide background, who voluntarily share their skills

and dedicate time and energy to ensure the Association is steered in the rightdirection.There are at least five meetings a year with various other sub-committees

meeting up to four times a year. Board Members are elected annually at theannual general meeting.If you would like more information on how to become a Board

Q Have you worked anywhere else?I previously worked at charteredaccountants Llewelyn Davies in Narberth forten years. I was responsible for producingmanagement accounts for a varied portfolioof clients. QWhat are your hobbies?I play rugby and cricket for Whitland, but Iam just a spectator at the moment, as I amwaiting for a knee operation. I also enjoy golfalthough I’m no Tiger Woods. I enjoytravelling and hope to return to Malawi,where I spent three months volunteering.Q Favourite food?Indian and Italian.

Q Favourite film?My top three are The ShawshankRedemption, Forrest Gumpand Dumb and Dumber. Q Favourite place?The best places I have visited have tobe Malawi and Zambia. The people arefriendly and the scenery is stunning.Q Favourite music?I enjoy all types. My CD rack includesthese classics(!): Westlife, Stereophonics,Kings of Leon, Andrea Bocelli andMumford & Sons. Supporting residents

� Customer Service TeamOur new Customer Advisors aretrained to deal with enquiries at firstcontact. Team members are able toaccess accurate repair informationand are improving their ‘right firsttime’ performance.

� Bro Myrddin goes paperlessThanks to a new DocumentManagement system, Bro Myrddin isnow largely paperless. The systemmakes accessing files easier, helpsthe environment, saves space,reduces the risk of lost paperwork.

Access to housing

� Housing optionsWorking closely with CarmarthenshireCounty Council, we have developed aHousing Options Portal, which offersinformation and advice on affordablerented accommodation inCarmarthenshire.

� Matching needsWe have also developed anAccessible Housing Register, whichallows us to match homes to residentswith specific housing needs.

Carmarthenshire’sHousing OptionsPortal

To receive Universal Credit, you’llneed to have a bank or buildingsociety account, or an accountwith an alternative provider like acredit union.

The choices are:

• a current account • a basic bank account• a ‘jam jar’ account (also calleda budgeting account)

• some types of credit unionaccount, and

• a Post Office® card account.

Ideally, your account should allow youto make electronic payments out of it– such as direct debits or standingorders – for bills such as rent, gas andelectricity.Except for the Post Office® card

account, all the accounts listed aboveallow you to make electronic payments.

Current accountMost people use a current accountwith a bank or building society tomanage their day-to-day money.

They offer features such aselectronic payments, cash

cards, debit cards, direct debits andcheques.

You can access them through ahigh street branch, online, using

mobile banking or over the phone.

You can get regularstatements.Some accounts charge highfees and interest if you go

overdrawn, and most have penaltycharges if there’s not enough in youraccount to cover a direct debit orstanding order.

Basic bank accountBasic bank accounts have most of thefeatures of a current account, but nooverdraft facility.

This makes them an option ifyou’ve got a poor credit history

From October 2013, housing benefit and many other benefits will bereplaced with Universal Credit. Your monthly Universal Creditpayment will include the money for your rent and you’ll need to arrangewith us to pay it yourself and manage your finances until your nextpayment.

‘Jam jar’ accountWith a jam jar – or budgeting – bankaccount, you divide your accountinto different ‘pots’ or ‘jars’.Typically, there are different pots forspending and bills and there maybe a pot for saving too. You decidehow much money goes into eachpot by working out how much youneed for your bills and how much is

left over for spending or saving.The advantage of a jam jaraccount is that you can be sure

that when rent day (or bill day) comes,the money will be there to cover thepayment.

You may be able to arrange textalerts to warn you if yourbalance is running low.You might have access toadvice on managing yourmoney.These accounts charge a fee –usually £10-£15 a month. You

might decide it’s a price worth payingif it means you can avoid missedpayment charges and overdraft fees.Jam jar accounts are quite new,although more will become availableover the next few months.

Credit union accountCredit unions are ‘not-for-profit’community organisations that offersavings accounts and loans to theirmembers. Some offer basic bankaccounts that allow you to receiveelectronic payments and set up directdebits and standing orders. Some arealso developing jam jar accounts.

Credit unions can be useful ifyou’ve had difficulty opening an

account with a bank or buildingsociety.

They don’t offer overdrafts, butyou might be able to apply for a

loan. They encourage you to borrowonly what you can afford to repay.

Pasta with tomatoand ‘hidden’ veggie sauce

Bro Myrddin has nowpartnered with Carmarthenfoodbank. This provides emergency

and compassionate foodsupplies in partnership withvoucher holders across the county.Boxes of nutritionally balanced food are given to people in

emotional or financial crisis. Each box contains three days’ worth ofnon-perishable food and includes menu planners to help users make healthy meals.The food is donated by supermarkets, shoppers and members of the community,

while the service is run by a team of trained volunteers. The foodbank is open on Mondays and Tuesdays between 11am and 2pm.There is no shame in receiving help to feed yourself and your family. If you contact

Bro Myrddin, we can discuss matters with you and, if needs be, provideyou with a voucher to collect food supplies from Carmarthen foodbank. For more information, please contact the Association on 01267

Ingredients1 tsp olive oil1 large onion, chopped2 celery sticks, chopped2 carrots, chopped1 leek, chopped2 peppers, deseeded and chopped2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoeswith garlic1 tbsp each caster sugar andbalsamic vinegar300g dried pasta shapesParmesan, shaved, and rocket, toserve (optional)

Method1. Heat the oil in a large non-sticksaucepan and gently cook the onion,celery, carrots and leek until soft –about 20 mins. Add the peppers andcook for 10 mins more, then tip in thetomatoes, sugar and vinegar. Simmerfor at least 20 mins – the longer thebetter.2. Cook the pasta following packinstructions. Meanwhile, blitz the saucewith a hand blender until smooth,season and return to the heat to keepwarm while the pasta cooks. Drain thepasta and toss through the sauce.Serve in bowls topped with shavedParmesan and rocket leaves if you like.Per serving 381 kcalories; protein 14g;carbohydrate 79g; fat 3g; saturated fat 1g; fibre 8g; sugar 22g; salt 0.35g.

O fis Hydref 2013, bydd Credyd Cynhwysol yn disodli Budd-dal Tai asawl budd-dal arall. Bydd eich taliad Credyd Cynhwysol misol yncynnwys arian eich rhent a bydd angen i chi drefnu gyda ni i dalu’rrhent eich hun a rheoli eich cyllid tan eich taliad nesaf.

Mae hyn yn golygu eu bod ynddewis da i chi os oes gennych

hanes credyd gwael, oherwydd nidoes rhaid i'r banc wirio eich credyd.
