Guyed lattice tower SgurrMetMastsThe guyed lattice tower met mast design allows climbing of the mast structure, reducing the cost of maintenance in the event of instrumentation failure.

This particular mast can be installed without the need for large cranes, reducing the required plant machinery associated with installation.

The guyed lattice tower met mast design allows for high wind and ice loadings so is ideal for remote locations and low temperature conditions. The design offers the following features and benefits as standard:

• High quality materials for ease of maintenance• Reaching heights of 200m• Installation by multiple methods • Four guy directions

Page 03/06 Our objective when selecting SgurrEnergy was to make sure we get a bank grade wind

resource assessment. The met mast and Galion Lidar wind measurement campaign proved to be a cost effective combination and was

designed and delivered as proposed.

The permanent freestanding lattice tower mast is specifically designed for each site location, resulting in the ideal met mast for your project.

This permanent mast can be erected either on or offshore and its small footprint means there is a low impact on the surrounding environment.

This mast has integrated rest platforms and climbing anchor points. Instrumentation can be maintained easily and cost effectively due to the climbable structure.

Permanent freestanding lattice tower masts offer the following features and benefits as standard:

• High quality climbable materials for ease of maintenance

• Reaching heights of 200m• Installation by multiple methods• Site specific design• For use on and offshore• Rest platforms incorporated• Various fall arrest systems.

This product is complemented by a SgurrEnergy permanent met panel which allows direct connection to wind farm fibre optic SCADA systems.

installation and measurement campaign

SgurrEnergy completed the installation of two SgurrMetMasts in Malawi for the Wind Energy Preparation Programme (WEPP), part of the larger Malawi Renewable Energy Acceleration Programme (MREAP).

Our scope of work involved installing and commissioning two 70m masts, including all instrumentation, data logging, communication and power systems, using local plant and haulage companies in Malawi.

A satellite communication system fed the data back to SgurrDataPortal where, following detailed analysis, two energy yield reports were delivered to the Scottish and Malawi governments, the first of their type in Malawi.

The overall project scope is extensive and includes wind resource mapping, site selection, met mast supply and installation, as well as data download and analysis. Further stages of the WEPP project include detailed feasibility study work, capacity building and bank-grade energy yield assessments.

installation and measurement campaign

SgurrEnergy was appointed by ScottishPower Renewables to install a 70m SgurrMetMast at their Beinn an Turic site as part of a measurement campaign for the proposed third phase of the site. The installation, which will gather data for 24 months, was conducted on challenging site topography and undulating terrain. Our expert mast installation team undertook detailed logistical planning for safe movement around the site identifying a number of access issues due to deep peat and large peat hags in the area. Our management of the installation included identifying access track upgrading for delivery of personnel, plant and vehicles to the mast location and the safe, timely installation of the tubular mast.

Our scope of work included:• Pre-construction site visit to assess site access, ground conditions and met mast location• Supply and installation of 70m SgurrMetMast and instrumentation• Operation and maintenance of the met mast for the duration of the campaign• 24 month data recovery and monthly wind data reporting campaign via SgurrDataPortal.

SgurrMetMast installation and measurement campaign

Norwegian developer, Havgul Clean Energy AS appointed SgurrEnergy to design and implement a comprehensive measurement campaign for a proposed 200MW wind farm in Tonstad, Norway.

As part of the project, the SgurrEnergy team installed an 80m guyed lattice met mast at Tonstad in June 2014. The mast was safely and efficiently installed by helicopter at this inaccessible mountain site. Other challenges during the wind measurement campaign were heavy snowfalls and icing conditions but the met mast continues to provide reliable and consistent wind data beyond the initial 12 months period.

A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model was used to identify the areas of the site with the greatest uncertainty, helping to design an optimised wind measurement campaign. Wind measurements were collected by Galion Lidar, also deployed safely by helicopter, at two additional locations within the site during the six month long campaign, reducing uncertainty across the complex terrain.

Scheduled to start production in 2018, the Tonstad project will feed into the Norwegian central grid at the connection point of the two new interconnectors to Germany and England.

Beinn an Turic Phase III

SgurrEnergy successfully managed the installation of a 70m tubular guyed met mast on an area of Sgreadan Hill, involving peat hags. The project was completed within the anticipated timescales based on the difficulties introduced by the undulating ground. ScottishPower Renewables was pleased with the project.
