Seeing is Believing : BIM & 3D VisualizationSG&A is committed to improving design processes and client interactions through the use of building information modeling (BIM) technology. BIM is the creation and use of coordinated, consistent, computable information about a building project that yields reliable digital representations of the building in both two dimensional and three dimensional representations used for design decision-making, production of high-quality construction documents, clash detection, performance predictions, cost-estimating, construction planning, and facilities management.

trends in the workplace

Work/life boundaries are becoming blurred, with the emphasis on work. Technology permits much work to be accomplished any time, any where. Teamwork is increasingly the norm and the teams are engaged in complex, fast-moving assignments with challenging deadlines. These changes impact the how designers and employers approach space.

While SG&A is well versed in current market place trends, we are not tied to those trends. Since our focus is you, our client, we listen to your needs and we work with you to assess your past, present and future. We use that information to formulate a design solution that is right for you. Every client has a different culture and as such, every trend is not necessarily appropriate for every client.

SG&A is uniquely qualified to deliver the experience, resources and services needed to provide solutions, to meet your challenges and exceed your expectations.

Although we have a particular affinity for working with companies and organizations that are “on the move” that is where the similarity between our clients end. Whether they are venture capital firms, healthcare service providers, research organizations, manufacturers, software engineers, defense contractors or law firms and whether they are going commercial, going public or going international, our design teams create environments that work best for each unique company and respond accordingly to what they do and how they do it.

Our work is inspired and informed by the unique ambitions of each client and, because each client is different, our response is distinct each and every time. Our creativity is enhanced, never hampered, by the realities of aggressive schedules and tight budgets, codes, statutes, financial goals and scheduling needs that are at the core of all we plan, all we design.

A progressive market research company providing unique customer insight, Communispace’s work environment required an open, energetic and intuitive space to support the team oriented focus that drives their business. SG&A created this 83,000 sf office space on two floors at Boston’s Atlantic Wharf to enhance the highly collaborative buzz that is synonymous with Communispace and its company culture. From the outset, the lobby greets clients, partners and visitors with a vibe and look that could only be Communispace. Much of the work at Communispace is accomplished through team effort, both online, through video conference and in person to encourage regular communication. This new workplace truly caters to this style of work, utilizing an abundance of conference rooms, training rooms, break out space and soft seating areas for employees.

we space vs. me space project type: Corporate Headquarters area: 30,000 Square Feet

Black Duck Software’s new office space is all about the employees. Finishes, furnishings, color, and graphics became the perfect platform to express the duality of their brand and its personality. In an effort to encourage collaboration and foster a sense of community, the design team carefully strategized the balance of “we space” versus “me space.” By co-locating the game room, café and meeting areas with the main reception zone, SG&A was able to provide a centralized hub of activity for breaks, collaboration and dining. To balance the focused nature of their engineers’ work with the fun and playful personality of their brand culture, interactive display shelves backed with nature photography became a home for their signature rubber duckies. Similarly, custom wallcoverings encrypt a clever story about the company’s history with a stream of binary code.

project type: Corporate Office Building area: 100,000 Square Feet

The SG&A design team provided focus on both redefining Acme’s brand identity as well as incorporating that identity into the built environment. The environmental branding created by the team reflects and supports the company’s commitment to its staff and corporate customers. We identified the key messages to infuse into the workplace and communicated those through the use of finishes, materials, colors, environmental graphics, ancillary seating and special lighting. This new office facility provides an opportunity for visitors to experience Acme’s corporate vision and values as well as manufacturing and lab operations. At the same time, the environment reiterates to its employees that they are a part of a collaborative team within a “mature, but entrepreneurial” hi-tech company.

As the world’s leading expert in network video, Axis Communications’ new US headquarters is comprised of two primary space types: an open, collaborative office zone for their internal team and an executive business center for visitors and clients. The environment features access to natural light, and reflects the clean lines and sophistication of the company’s global headquarters in Sweden. Collaborative “fire side chat” zones pop with sculptural lighting and bright furnishings while accent paint on carpet tiles become a life size measurement device for testing equipment by the lab. The concepts of surveillance and exposure were carried throughout the space through key elements such as built-in security cameras and product installations as well as full height orange glass panels that slice through walls, exposing activity beyond.

The 1st floor of the new 120,000 sf corporate headquarters building accommodates all of Palomar’s manufacturing operations. It creates a significantly greater level of synergy as well as highly improved operational efficiency. In the manufacturing facility, a power busway system was provided to distribute 120/208v, 60Hz and 120/240v, 50Hz power to the product assembly area. This system allows power to be supplied to the assembly work benches through flexible drop cords where needed. The 2nd floor is dedicated to labs and R&D functions with associated office space. Labs were furnished with receptacles to supply 240v, 50 Hz power in addition to the standard 120 volt power. Each lab is provided with dedicated electrical circuits, isolating power to each lab space. A gaseous hydrogen system feeds the diode lab. The system is comprised of ultra-high purity double containment, orbitally-welded stainless steel piping with a leak monitoring system which shuts down the system at the manifold if there is a breach of the primary (interior) piping.
