The Next 50 YearsDiscovering aspirations and curating the next 50 years

WHY KITAx?

SG50KITAx is a program that amalgamates passionate and energetic young Singaporeans. The 4-month program, aims to curatively project and develop long term actionable programs (and processes) addressing future needs.

We have to know what is going to happen in the world, anywhere in the world. Major trends, unexpected developments such as globalisation and technological progress can create and disrupt businesses swiftly, much faster than we think and much faster than sometimes we would like (…) We want to know and we want to be part of this change. We have no choice.

”- PM Lee Hsien Loong, October 2014

In an ever changing global environment, what future lies for the small nation of Singapore and its future generation?

KEY OBJECTIVES

‣ Curate possible at scenarios around selected themes, along with inputs from key opinion leaders in the relevant themes (i.e. industry).

‣ Develop long-term actionable programs and processes to address issues or pain-points in these curated scenarios

‣ Creating the SG50 identity based on curated youth aspirations of the future.

‣ Expose young people to what the future will look like (through scenarios) as part of a larger step to prepare them for such future(s).

‣ Provide an opportunity and platform for young change-makers to learn new skills, insights and develop a network of future leaders.

BROAD APPROACH

Extending to the larger community to seek out ideas and participation from the ground.

‣ Ground Up

‣ CollaborativeTo cross-pollinate talent and aspiration across diverse back-ground (and beyond the Malay community) with a common purpose.

‣ AspirationalIdentify, develop and curate individual aspirations, in the longer term building a larger narrative of collective future aspirations.

‣ Future ProofEvery ideas, aspirations and process requires a certain “foresight filter” to make them relevant for the conditions of the future.

‣ Long-Term ImpactPrograms and ideas should never be a one-off, in other words participants need to map out processes for the long term.

KEY IDEATION TOOLS

1. Causal Layered Analysis

CLA is strategic planning tool often utilised in the field of future thinking to effectively shape the future. Causal layered analysis focuses on “opening up” the present and past to create alternative futures rather than on developing a picture of a particular future.

2. Human Centered Design Approach

HCD is a is a process in which the needs, wants, and limitations of end users of a product, service or process are given extensive attention at each stage of the design process. HCD can be characterized as a multi-stage problem solving process that not only requires designers to analyse and foresee how users are likely to use a product, but also to test the validity of their assumptions with regard to user behaviour in real world tests with actual users.

1. Value Proposition Map

The Value Proposition Map makes explicit how solutions are creating value for key stakeholders (i.e end-users, customers). Primarily, it helps change-makers to design products and services that end-user wants.

2. Business Model Canvass

BMC is a strategic management and business template for designing, implementing and documenting key business strategies. For change-makers this is a useful tool as it considers key factors in developing desired solutions.

All my motivation for change has really been about the future. If you don't change, are you good enough for the future? That's the real driver. SG50 is about the past, we have to think about the future. What does the future need?
