2. Target AudienceThe target audience we have chosen for our media product isspecifically 12-14 year olds. We chose this audience becausethey are still young enough to enjoy fairy tales, but are oldenough to see them in a new and interesting way, hence ourreasoning to go with a thriller type genre rather than atraditional fairy tale route. Our age group means that theofficial film rating certificate our film would receive is a 12A;suitable for children aged 12 and over, but parents should stillsupervise. As you can see in the next slide, the films that are rated at a12A certificate seem like quite adult films. Our reasoning forclassing our trailer at a 12A rating and not, for example, a PGrating, is because we felt that the dark and sinister element ofthe trailer would cause the rating to be bumped up that littlebit more. PG implied that the film is quite tame and just adultsupervision is needed, whereas 12A suggests that theredefinitely should be an adult present while watching thefilm, as some parts are scarier than others, and will need aparent there for comfort. 3. Examples of films that are out/coming soon in the 12A certificate 4. Characters and LocationFor our characters, we only need 3 or 4. The character list is as follows: Hansel Gretel Witch Father (maybe)We are still keeping the father character open as we are not sure whether to have him inthe trailer for a brief moment so that the audience know why the children have beenleft in the forest. We also realised that we can sidle around this problem by having oneof the children shout out Daddy! and have the sounds of footsteps in thebackground, to imply that someone is leaving them there. For the location, we figured that the best place would be a house in the woodssomewhere, preferably one that isnt lived in and looks quite run down. We are stillsearching for the perfect location, but have already found some possible ideas. We arelooking in places like Dulwich and Hyde Park, but we decided that if worse comes toworst, we will use the shed in my back garden, which is surrounded by bushes andfoliage. 5. Costume and Make-upWe thought a lot about how we could be creative in our trailer and we figured we could becreative in respects of the witch. Instead of making her look like a stereotypical witch; bignose, warts all over her face, long straggly hair. We thought that wed make her look a lotmore dramatic, with dark, smoky eye makeup and a sweeping black cloak. As you will seein the storyboard, we only see half of her face, but that half has to be really powerful andslightly scare the audience. There is a sense of mystery with the witch but we wanted tomake her the scariest character. For Hansel and Gretel, were going to have two teenagers playing the young characters. We realised that this may be a risk, but as we dont know any young people to play theroles, we are going to make the teenagers look younger through make-up and costume. We suggested a simple dress for Gretel and dolly shoes, with her hair in two plaits, andtrousers and an old t-shirt for Hansel, maybe with scuffed trainers. As in the story thechildren are meant to be practically starved, so with make-up, we can make their faceslook gaunt and put bags under their eyes, I think that this will look great against thesetting of the woods and run down house, and create the overall tone that we want;dark, sinister and a little mysterious. 6. Hansel and Gretel Costume Ideas As you can see, the costume choices are fairly simple and mostly share the same colour palette. We plan to replicate some of these ideas in our trailer, and maybe contrast the dull costume colours with a bright green forest background 7. Ideas for the witchs costume and make-up
