This evening is my monthly community meeting from6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the North Beach Library. Please come to the meeting as we will discuss crime andcommunity issues.

New Police Officers Arrive at Central Station

Congratulations to the newest members of the San Francisco Police Department whowill graduate the Police Academy tomorrow evening. Central Station welcomesOfficers Samuel Fyles, Nathalie Peraza and Paul McIntosh who will begin theirfield training.

The Holidays are hereIt is a very exciting time in the Central District as webegin the holiday season. Many of us will be attendingholiday gatherings to celebrate the year. Please do notdrink and drive and assist others who may want todrive after they have had an alcoholic beverage. It isnot worth injuring others or yourself. Please figure outother ways to get home.

    Turkey Give Away

Central Station Officers, in partnership with the Chinatown Community DevelopmentCenter, will be delivering turkeys to families in need tomorrow from 12:00 p.m. to4:00 p.m. We participated last year and enjoyed giving away the turkeys, provided by CCDC, to the community.

    Tragic Bus Collision

I want to take a moment to thank the Central Station Officers, Officers from the De-partments Traffic Company, the Fire Department, MTA, the Union Square BID andvarious other agencies who all came together last Friday to respond to and man-age the horrific collision involving a tour bus at Post and Stockton. I was on scenewithin 10 minutes of the collision and the training we all received was put into actionas all of the agencies, working very well together, were able to get the injured tohospitals and quickly control the scene. I am grateful that more people were notseriously injured or worse.

    Traffic Citations

Central Station Officers wrote 1,105 citations in the month of October, which was up 11% from the yearprior. We are seeing far too often pedestrians hit by motorists in the crosswalk and so we are focusingon this violation in an effort to reduce collisions. Please be patient when driving around the district and

take a moment to provide the right of way to pedestrians.

    Have a great weekend!
