2/13
From the Librarians Pen
The inaugural issue of the Library Newsletter is in front of you.
While intended primarily for an external audience, the bi-annual
newsletter can also help educate and inspire campus people about
the library and its multifarious collections, people, units, and
initiatives. To this end, we intend to provide a copy of this
e-newsletter to each HOD, faculty, staff, students and affiliated
library mail, and are encouraged to distribute these to staff and/or to
place them on display.
Thanks to Mr. Johnson Pen (SFIT) for his design inputs.
You can also access this newsletter on our website atwww.sfitengg.org

From the Directors Desk.
A book is a gift which you can open again and again- Garrison Keillor
I am extremely happy to note that our SFIT Library
has taken the first step in bringing out a bi-annual
newsletter in the soft form which you can open again
and again. Although this newsletter is primarily addressed to an
external audience as per the Editor, I feel that it will also be quite
useful to our staff and students especially the information on Recent
Acquisitions and constant updates on services and digital library.
My sincere congratulations to our Library staff for taking this first
step in bringing out this newsletter and I am sure over a period of
time, it will be improved further and will be eagerly awaited by the
readers.

Set up in the year 1999 and located on the second floor of the
building, SFIT Library aims at procuring all important documents
related to the principal as well as allied subjects of engineering. It is
also strengthening its information base for foreign periodicals by
acquiring the journals in an electronic form as far as possible. SFIT
Library has a rich collection of over 14,000 documents. Then and Now.
Collection
1999
We started the library with1200 books housed in 8cupboards. Some of the bookscame with a floppy. We thenhad only 6 print journals.
2009
The collection has soared to 14000documents. It includes not only books butalso project reports of B.E. students, conference proceedings, book bank books,Marathi books and AV material. AVmaterial includes CDs and DVDs, especiallythe How to series. Our periodical section now houses 71
journals, of which more than 25 journalscan be accessed online. We have a host ofpopular magazines also.
Catalog Search1999
10 years ago, our in-house
software did not providecatalog search facility at theuser-end. Our library staff hadto be at their wits end to helpstudents locate the bookseasily.
2009
Now, we have WebOPAC a superb search
facility where users can search fordocuments with a keystroke fromanywhere in the campus or off-campus.
