COMMUNICATION ETIQUETTE Email WestronglyencourageyoutouseyourassignedSaintFrancisemailwhencorrespondingwithcolleges.Itisimportanttoconsistentlyprovideanappropriateemail.Collegestypicallyuseemailasthepreferredmethodofcommunicatinginformation,soitisimperativeyoucheckyouremaildaily.Whenemailingcolleges,usepropergrammar,don’tabbreviateandavoidusingslangsuchasLOLorBTW.Trytomaintainaprofessionalidentityasmuchaspossiblewithallcorrespondence.Online Identity Thismaycomeasashock,butmoreandmoreadmissionoffersarebeingrescindedduetoinappropriateonlinebehavior.Thelastthingyouoryourparentswouldwantisforasocialmediahorrorstorytooccur.KeepyourFacebook,Twitter,blogsetc.private.ThinkbeforeyoupostaninappropriatepictureorcommentandfollowallrulesoutlinedintheSaintFrancis2014‐2015StudentHandbook. Student Portals Manycollegesrequirestudentstosetupwhatisreferredtoasastudentportal.Afteryousubmityourapplication,thecollegewilllikelysendyouanemailwithalinktosetupyourportal.Besuretowritedownyourusernameandpasswordforeachschool’sportalontheUsernamesandPasswordstoRememberform(appendix).Eachcollegeusesportalsdifferently,butmostcommonlyaportalisusedasameansofcommunication.Notificationofmissingdocuments,confirmationthatalldocumentshavebeenreceivedandadmissionnoticesarecommonusesfortheportal.Onceyouenrollasastudentataparticularcollege,youwilllikelyregisterforclassesandpayyourtuitionthroughyourportal.

COMPONENTS OF THE APPLICATION Early Action and Early Decision Plans
• Early Action: Somecollegesofferanopportunitytoapplyearlyandreceiveananswerearly.Normally,thestudentappliesinNovemberandwouldreceivearesponseinDecember.Thisisanon‐bindingadmissionplanandthestudentdoesnotneedtoreplyuntilMay1.Ifyouaredeferredunderthisplan,youwillbereconsideredwiththeregularapplicantpool.Earlyactionapplicantstendtobemorecompetitiveforadmissionthanthoseintheregularpool,soapplyingunderearlyactionrarelyenhancesthechancesofadmission.Ofcoursethemajorbenefittoearlyactionisthatyouwillknowyouradmissionoutcomemuchsoonerthanifyouappliedunderregulardecision.
