THE DESIGN INTENT OF THE "FIRST-EVER" GOLF

MAGAZINE DREAM HOME IS TO CAPTURE THE ESSENCE OF WHAT

GOLF LIVING COULD AND SHOULD BE. REYNOLDS PLANTATION OFFERS A

WONDERFUL PRISTINE ENVIRONMENT WITH OVER 50 MILES OF SHORELINE ON ONE

OF THE LARGEST LAKES IN THE SOUTHEAST. LAKE OCONEE IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY

ONE HOUR FROM METROPOLITAN ATLANTA, GA. ALTHOUGH CLOSEST TO THE CONVENIENCE

OF THE CITY, FROM A CONTEXTUAL STANDPOINT, LAKE OCONEE FEELS HUNDREDS OF MILES

AWAY FROM THE CROWDED HIGH DENSITY WORLD OF SUBURBAN ATLANTA.

UPON ARRIVING AT REYNOLDS PLANTATION, YOU ARE GREETED WITH LONG LAKE VIEWS AND

ABUNDANT WILDLIFE. THE 81 HOLES OF RESORT QUALITY GOLF ALL CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING THIS

DEVELOPMENT UNLIKE ANY OTHER IN THE REGION. HERE YOU WILL BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE A HIGHER

QUALITY OF LIFE AT A RELAXED SLOWER PACE. FISHING, BOATING, GOLF OUTINGS, COOKOUTS, AND

QUIET NAPS ON A PORCH ALL COME TO MIND. THESE ARE NOT THE IMAGES WHICH WE ENVISION IN

A TYPICAL SUBURBAN ENVIRONMENT. THEY ARE UNIQUELY DIFFERENT AND THEY CHALLENGE US TO

RESPOND WITH ARCHITECTURE THAT IS DIFFERENT AS WELL.

IT IS OUR INTENT TO MEET THAT CHALLENGE BY DESIGNING A HOME THAT TRULY IS A

GOLF LOVER'S DREAM HOME . THIS HOME SHOULD DEPICT THE IDEA OF WHAT RESORT

GOLF LIVING IS ALL ABOUT...

DESIGN INTENT: The House of Masters

GOLF MAGAZINEDREAM HOME

SITE PLAN AND LANDSCAPE

The Dream Home is situated amongst the rolling

hills and hardwood forests of the Reynolds

Plantation 'Oconee' golf course and is situated

on a gentle bluff overlooking the magnificent

number 12 green. The location of the home

takes advantage of fantastic views onto the

green's beautiful water feature and distant views

down the fairway. One of the primary objectives

of the landscape design was to maintain the nat-

ural beauty of the site. The lot has many large

hardwood trees and careful placement of the

home on the site was needed in order to pre-

serve these large majestic trees.

The front entry drive brings guests up to an invit-

ing arrival court, past low stonewalls and an ele-

gant water feature, to the front door. The drive

circles back out to the street or around to the

side motor court, that provides access to the

three-car garage and a designated space for park-

ing the golf cart. The backyard provides a unique

private Putting & Chipping Green that is both

challenging and entertaining for the homeown-

ers and their guests. Complete with smooth

greens, sand traps and patches of rough, this fea-

ture will be a hit with any golf enthusiast.

The overall concept of the landscape design

compliments the unique architecture of the

home and the natural features of the surround-

ing environment. The site and landscape com-

position provide an elegant and undisturbed set-

ting for an authentic golf experience.

GOLF MAGAZINEDREAM HOME

REAR PERSPECTIVE

The Design Intent of the 2004 Golf

Magazine Dream Home is intend-

ed to capture the natural beauty

and classic heritage of the sport of

golf. Golf, probably more than any other sport,

marries somewhat opposing natural elements

into classic harmony and beauty. Raw Athleticism

must meet finesse and touch. Rugged natural ter-

rain joins manicured landscapes.

Therefore, our Golf Home like-

wise, brings together the rugged

and natural materials of stone,

and cedar shake and joins them

with classic architectural detailing

and finishes.

We have chosen to blend the classic features of

coastal Shingle Style

Architecture with the detailing found

in The Rolling Piedmont region of the

Southeastern United States. Broad

verandas terminate in twin octagonal

porches, reminiscent of Southern Vernacular

styles. These stylistic references join together and

work closely with existing grades, mature land-

scape and views to give an instant sense of

appropriateness.

Classical Georgian details, such as Tuscan

columns, Palladian Windows, and Multi-window

grand bays maintain a sense of heritage and link

to the rich history of golf.

FRONT ELEVATION

The Shingle Style was chosen not only for its

timeless beauty, rich materials, and historically

appropriate roots, but because of its recent new

stature within Reynolds Plantation as well.

Gambrel roofs rest on shingle walls set on warm

stone foundations.

The center of the composition is the broad dining

room bay which is set inside a continual raised

portico. The garage wing is set comfortably in the

front left of the site, and compliments the main

façade with its scale and common material

palette.

From the approach side, the home will have a

dignified yet approachable scale. A series of

accent windows add a classical sense to the

composition which will allow the interiors to flow

into historical American directions.

GOLF MAGAZINEDREAM HOME

MAIN LEVEL PLAN / 2,100 S.F.

Elegant, simplicity and openness define the

homes layout. The central Great Room and

Dining Room join to become one large enter-

tainment space. Ceilings rise with detailed

beams to give the space volume and importance.

Continual window walls on both the front and

rear elevations will bring light into the center of

the home on any lot condition. The Great Room

continues through to a large open Kitchen

Breakfast by virtue of a see-through fireplace and

bookcases.

The Kitchen joins a functional garage, golf cart

staging area with room for club storage and

Home Office.

An open stair presents itself upon entry and leads

to a casual open terrace level. A private and spa-

cious main floor master bedroom and bath com-

plete the first floor interior spaces.

Outside, the home continues across the full rear

elevation, with large verandas, outdoor fireplaces

and screened porches which capture views to

the course beyond.

TERRACE LEVEL PLAN / 1,500 S.F.

The lower level repeats with a twin master suite

for guests. A large media, Game room complete

with Bar and Kitchenette, make this level the

center of media and game activity. A continuous

alcove across the rear of the game room, allows

for a fabric screen to convert the media room

into a large Home theater.

A pair of twin bedrooms and separate baths

complete the lower level and function ideally for

children's suites. The lower level also extends out

under the veranda above. The fireplace continues

and is ideal for a hot tube to end the day.

GOLF MAGAZINEDREAM HOME

INTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

Inspired by the architecture, the interiors of the

Golf Magazine Dream Home will reflect clarity in

historical styling with a fresh and simple

approach to comfortable living. At first glance,

a relaxed feel will embrace you upon entering

the home. Architectural detailing of cabinetry,

trim and beam work will hint at the classic

Georgian styling of early golf clubs. The look and

feel of distressed bronze hardware add a hand

crafted touch to each passage and every cup-

board. Antique heart pine floors lit by the

warmth of an old brass chandelier will set the

stage for furnishings, artwork and accessory

appointments rich in character and tradition yet

balanced with the essence of a contemporary

lifestyle The natural landscape and golf inspired

surroundings will filter into the home through a

very timeless palette of fabrics and finishes.
