The goal of the Seymour Community School district is the safe return of as many students as possible to in-person school settings, to maximize learning and address our students’ holistic needs. Along with this goal we realize realistically we need to be flexible and plan for moving between three different models of instruction so that we can meet the needs of all students throughout the 2020-21 school year.

In our planning, we are basing our plans on the medical research that shows it is not one mitigation strategy but a combination of mitigation strategies taken together that will substantially reduce the risk of transmission. If we can reduce the risk of transmission, we will hopefully increase the number of students and staff who can continue to participate in person instruction.

Getting students and educators back to school in-person, safely, relies on a combination of strategies, including key health and safety measures. The primary route of transmission for COVID-19 is respiratory.

-Masks/ face coverings protect against COVID-19 infection (study estimates 80% effectiveness in reducing transmission) -Physical distancing helps mitigate virus transmission. Aim for six feet between individuals when feasible.

-Handwashing removes pathogens from the hands. While handwashing with soap and water is the best option, hand sanitizer may be utilized when hand washing is not available

-Students and educators should stay home if they are sick or have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19

Hybrid - Students will attend school in person part of the week and virtual part of the week(All 6th - 12th grade students and also available in the event district/schools are unable to bring all students back to school despite best efforts, or in case of COVID-19 related circumstances)

Virtual - Students will attend school virtually for all instruction (Available for individual students who cannot yet return in-person and for all students in the event of future closures due to COVID-19)
