July 26, 2014: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Children:This disorder is different in children and has special defects; learn what happensin a childs brain when they experience unusual stress (parent incarcerated,viewing domestic, violence, seeing someone shot, etc.); Find out about thetreatment methods that practitioners use when a youth has experienced suchtrauma.
Violence in Chicago is among the worst levels of racial disparity in health care in the nation.
1) The services to heal Mental health clinics in every community, starting by re-opening closed city clinics Enough social workers and other clinicians in every school
Increased services to meet veterans mental health needs Resources to transition people out of prison and keep them from ending up there
2) The conditions to heal
Stable and decent housing bail out homeowners, stop demolishing public housing Increased and racially equitable access to health care High quality, well-funded, public neighborhood schools, after school programs
3) The resources to heal
A more fair and progressive income tax so the rich pay their fair share Re-direct funds from corporate greed to human need, starting with TIFs Re-direct money from locking up youth to keeping them out
