The 2018 House of Charity is in progress and we need your help to reach this year’s parish goal of $201,500. We know that contributing to the House of Charity requires a sacrifice on your part and we ask that you prayerfully consider contributing to this worthwhile campaign if you have not yet done so.

To date we have received $138,226 in donations and pledges which is 68% of our parish goal.

We thank those who have already contributed. Know that your gift is appreciated here at Holy Family and by the many who will benefit from your generosity.

"Hosanna! "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,

the king of Israel." "Then what do you want me to do

with the man you call the king of the Jews?" They shouted again, "Crucify him."

Pilate said to them, "Why? What evil has he done?" They only shouted the louder, "Crucify him."

Amazing that in less than one week the crowd went from praising the Lord and acknowledging Him as King of Israel to, “Crucify Him” by that Friday. Shows how the crowd can be fickle but also how quickly we jump from one thing to the other. More importantly for us is not so much to explore why the people changed their minds, we know the story and why they did change their minds. The greater question or questions for us are, who are we in the story and do we go back and forth? Typically and I have said this before usually most or if not all the time we place ourselves with the good guy or guys in the story and not with those who shouted, “Crucify Him.” We would never do such a horrible thing. I know there is a great sensitivity when it comes to trying to figure out who exactly killed Jesus, looking back now no one wants that stigma. Looking at the larger picture and who is responsible for His death, well, that’s everyone, me, you, Adam and Eve, the soldier who put the nail through his hand, Pilate, the Jews, the Romans, his own apostles, basically we all drove home the nails! We too shout, “Crucify Him,” when we sin. Jesus died for the whole world and nailed every single sin ever committed to the Cross for our redemption. I sometimes hear, oh Father, I am not that bad, never killed anyone, never committed adultery, never stole anything big, etc. My friends, one sin sends Jesus to the Cross. That is why sin is horrible and terrible. As soon as we make excuses

for ourselves is when we begin to shift from, “Hosanna in the highest” to “Crucify Him”. The Good News today is that even though we have shouted this out that God still forgives us. Can you imagine someone sending you to death for a crime you did not commit and then forgiving them? Wow! This is what our Savior did for us. This is why today at the beginning of Mass we bless the Palms, and because of His great forgiveness and love of us we shout, “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” When you look at your palms when you go home, reflect on that forgiveness and love that our Savior has for you. Though we have done terrible things, He invites us home and wipes the slate clean, do not look back, keep your eyes on those palms and look forward so that you may follow your king home to everlasting life.

God bless you,

Father John
