Thanks to William and Christine Robbins and David Hoeft for your hard work. I am still looking for someone to step forward and start thinking about being a Post Officer and Election in May 2017. This is a way to lead and work with other members. The Post has had numerous raffles at the Post. These people have been winners: Marge Clark-Basket, Betty Ingwell-Denise Rohan shirt, Tom Stolarczyk-Denise Rohan cap/shirt. SOME THOUGHTS ON COMING TOGETHER “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.” John 10:16

What an incredible past couple of months this has been! Never, to my recollection, have we been witness to so many sordid, mean-spirited chains of events with so many negative connotations. We’ve seen shootings of law officers and ugly demonstrations that far exceed our First Amendment rights of free speech. Results have been injuries, open defiance of authority, and unprecedented racial tensions not seen since the early days of the civil rights movements of the 1960s. This does not even include the horrific events associated with ISIS that have occurred throughout the world and in our country. I’m not sure if any of these observations make any sense except for the precept that its got to stop. It’s time that a coming together, an understanding, that peace and love must prevail if civilized society is to survive. This leads me to a pet noun of mine that may help to address the dilemma facing the world: evangelism. Have no fear, I’m not going on some tirade to convert you to a belief system not in tune with your beliefs. Let me clarify: although the term has to do primarily with the New Testament of the Bible, in no way is it mandatory that non-Christians accept Jesus Christ. People can still practice what Jesus Christ stands for: love and an inherent belief in the goodness of human beings. That is the essence of the ecumenical spirit. But how is this possible? This is no easy task, but let’s give it a try. Let’s start with a premise that Christians of varying belief systems can talk to one another and conclude that ecumenical agreements are possible. In the early 1940s Karl Barth, recognized as one of the greatest Protestant theologians of the 20th century, hosted a seminar to which he invited another prominent theologian, Hans Urs Balthasur, a Catholic, to discuss differences in their belief systems. Instead of tossing invectives at one another, they actually pioneered in movements towards understanding each others’ religious and social issues of the day. While they did not resolve the basic issues that separate Christians of various persuasions, they did, in my opinion, open up the way to try and draw the entire human race into a relationship with a superior being, Jesus Christ. Perhaps the chaos we see today will be lessened if people of good will can come together and set the example for the world. Failure to do so will result in the demise of civilization as we know it today. At the risk of preaching to the choir, the first words of the serenity prayer of St. Francis of Assisi has a message for all of us: “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace, where there is hatred let me sow peace.” May we continue to pray for our ill and deceased Legionnaires and their families and friends. God is the fire in us to serve as motivation, to inspire us in our faith, to lead a Christian life in all that we do. Some people will say "it is the things we do" serve to identify them as Christians, as some of us feel the need to congregate in church with friends and strangers to hear the word of God stated to us.

We have a new project this fall which will provide more funds for our many Veterans projects. It’s a Meat Raffle at Tully's Restaurant on Monona Dr. Please read another article in this bulletin to join us in the effort with very little of your time needed.

We are working on Christmas Stockings again for the VA Hospital. We could use a few more people to help us with the sewing.

With 9/11 approaching, we should all stop for a moment and reflect what has happened around the world with so much hate. Remember in prayer those that perished on 9-11. We are nation with much pride in our hearts. God Bless the USA.

See article on this page regarding the 2016 Legion Convention wrap up. Thanks to all who assisted in one way or another. It was a great convention.

Before you retire tonight, give your troubles to God and remember God is there for us in hard times and good times. Give him thanks as he is always receptive, 24/7.

Have a great Labor Day weekend and may the peace of our Lord be with you now and always. This is the day our Lord made for you.

Watch for the children on the streets as schools begins this month.

Be Happy, have Peace and be Safe. God Bless all.
